    Newbie- Kalispell

Hey. I live here in Kalispell. Will be joining your club and have talked to Charlie. Have a 6 week old 44 Breeder 150 metal halide and 2 50/50's plus lunars. ("Current" brand) "bak pak" protien skimmer and i think about 25 pounds of live rock and some once live rock I got from a friend. All live sand. have 2 chromis and 2 damsels. Bob at AQ shop gave me some little pieces of stuff to tempt me and i bought a couple tiny and i mean tiny (dang) zoo frags from ebay. now im broke. lol Hoping to go to Spokane in a couple weeks to get some rock. I think my tank cycled without me knowing. does anyone have any input on this? This part is driving me crazy. had algae growing. turned hailide timer back and got some snails and little crabs. they have cleaned me up nicley. no live stock has died. check ammonia about every 4 days. My name is Kim. My hubby and i will attend next meeting.

    Kim,

As far as what the red stuff is, I have no idea without a picture, I cannot see from C.Falls to your tank????
Have you checked out the new shop in Kalispell, at least they know what they are doing at the new place!!!!!!
If you can, out up a pic of your tank and maybe we can help figure out what the red stuff is. You are also welcome to come up and browse thru my tanks, my prices are a little better than Uncle Bob.

    Glad we have another member.
I have a some easy stuff as well if you're interested (mushrooms, zoanthids, some nice xenia ;) ;) ;) ) Charlie is great about helping newbies, so I figure I can try to pass on some of that generosity.

What do you shoot? trap? rifles?

We shoot pistol competition. IPSC its called. Run and gun stuff. I shoot a STI 38 super comp. with a dot scope. im just getting back into it. took some time off. my hubby shoots a lot of 3 gun. does really well. in the IPSC arena he is a "Grand Master class" shooter. you cant get any higher. Sorry. didnt mean to go on and on about that. but any stuff any one want to pass my way at a decent price I'll take it! I am so excited. Wish my test kits would get here so i would be so chicken. Thanks a lot!! I have 6 other aquariums. 5 fancy goldies and a brackish with my adorable little puffers and bumblbee gobies.

This looks like alot of fun! I watch the competitions on TV when I find them. I think they have some tactical training classes down here in Missoula one night a week. Do you shoot down in Missoula at all? Oh and welcome!

we shoot missoulas matches all the time. we make sure we make those matches just so we can go to Nara or Sushi Hana. LOL. Then we have have to burn off the fried icecream by hiking the M. the stuff you see on TV is the same stuff. there is IDPA which is the tactical shooting and then there is the fun race gun stuff we do. (IPSC)

mtpvteye, Welcome to ReefLand!! I'm not a member of your local club, but have got lots of help from Charlie and recently met some of the great members!! So, I stop in now and then and add my 2 cents. If unable to get a picture, can you describe the "red stuff" some? It's possible that it's Cyanobacteria. If so, it's best eliminated by adjusting or adding flow to the effected area and siphoning out as much as possible. It doesn't like high flow areas, so will tend to collect in lower flow. Increasing flow has almost always been my best remedy for it.

I love Nara, have you tired Sushi Now or maybe it's called Vinnie's Sushi Grill in Bigfork? I am from Kalispell/Bigfork, usually up on the weekends. I was at the range last night siting in some .22's, what a nice evening. What kind on tank are you guys wanting to end up with? Any ideas of creatures and corals?

    Re: Newbie- Kalispell

it looks like it would be a hard coral. in fact it is hard. very dark maroon. makes me think this base rock might be getting some coraline going on it because there are other spots of this stuff all over it. but not all of it looking spikey / it its small in diameter right now. less than a 1/4 inch. only 4 spots of spikey. the undersides of my best coraline rock look this same dark color. seems harmles right now. thanks!!! i ma looking up that work you typed. then i'll know.....

Your description, after my post, sounds an awful lot like Coralline algae.

That is a pretty slick setup!
I have those little spikey things too. I looked them up a while back, but don't remember what they are called. They are harmless though, so don't worry.
