Here are a few pictures of where the magnet and the housing rubbed together.
Hey Gang,
I had a strange thing happen to me this weekend. I have two VorTech MP40Ws in my tank and one of them had an issue that I thought I would share.
If you are using one of these pumps this should make sense. I will attach pictures later.
I looked over and saw that the internal propeller/housing had fallen off the glass and was now lying on the bottom the tank. So I took it out and tried to reattach it. I turned the unit back on and everything ran well for about 3 minutes then the propeller housing inside the tank started to shake and spin then fell off again.
It seems that the magnet in the outer part of the pump (outside of the tank) was pulling the interior magnet (inside the tank) so much that the interior magnet was making contact with the propeller's housing that sits against the glass. This was causing the magnet to turn the whole propeller housing piece inside the tank instead of just the propeller.
I took the interior piece out of the tank again and could smell the strong odder of burned plastic (where the magnet was rubbing on the housing).
I just got off the phone with Steve at EcoTech and he asked me to send him some pictures. I guess some of the propeller shafts were made too long and they have had some problems.
Maybe if you have one of these pumps pull out the propeller side and twist off the housing piece that sits against the glass and look for any contact.
I will post a few pictures later.

Did you ever hear back from the folks at Eco-tech? Is the pump back functioning Devon?

I did hear back from Steve at EcoTech Marine and he just asked for my mailing address. He said that I needed a new "wet side". I assume that means I will be up and running sometime this week.

Are they going to replace it at no charge?

Yeah it was a pretty "No Hassle" type warranty exchange. He just asked when I bought it and of course I sent him the serial number so he should have been able to see a manufacturing date. He said they would cover the shipping but if I needed ASAP then I needed to cover the extra. It was pretty nice to only have to email him some photos instead of having to send the unit in.
