45 degree elbows slow the water down a LOT less than a 90. I'm of the opinion that your drain line should be able to handle a LOT more than your return pump can handle and throttle it back if need be.

It does...but you should have an anti-siphon hole in it...you do don't you Charlie? ;) Yea, I know you do.

That's why I know you have an anti-siphon hole...or a check valve. Plus...really? a lot more money? Is it worth it? You plumb nice, clean, saltwater tanks...do you really want to deal with the other side of it? Like a plugged sewage line? I'd much rather play with the contents of my skimmer cup than unplug some stranger's stopped up toilet

I was serious when I said for you to answer my questions Charlie. I mean, you know the answers, I just sit here and say "duh.....". We'll need some filler so feel free to BS on my thread, as long as you don't BS about racing or football. Gardening, puppies and kids are fine. All your favorite subjects.

Don't sell yourself short, I don't think you stood there the whole time we were there and didn't absorb anything. I wondered why I was so tired when we got done, sall of our knowledge was getting sucked up like a sponge!!!!

We did put a siphon hole in there, didn't we??????

    Can we discuss adult beverages????

Let's look at this philosophically. If males can't discuss, football or racing............ we need adult beverages to discuss gardening, puppies and kids.

I am in the middle of cutting up a bunch of PVC for Cynthia, but yeah, I think we can cross kids off the list.

That's not fair that CHarlie lives close to her. I don't even have a LFS close by must less Charlie. But i might have Dega tickets for him next year so i might be able to get some hands on help... I loved the 29 gallon, very pretty. Can't wait to see the updated pics.

No, no, no, no and no. I am not gonna do that again. I got called stupid for another thread, so we gotta leave this one alone. It wasn't Cynthia that called us stupid, but I am not gonna take any more chances guys. We are gonna have to communicate dumb thoughts thru PM's.

    Re: My 80 Gallon Reef

I spent most of the day resizing the egg crate and attaching the pvc. I'll post pictures later this week. I filled with sand and then topped off with salt water. I turned on the 2 Koralias. Should I also run the overflow? I sanded down all the sharp edges on the eggcrate and all the sharp edges from the zip ties that hold the pvc to the eggcrate. Charlie says that I'm anal, no, maybe that wasn't the word he used but anyway, you get the idea. It took me forever. There was a bunch of scum on the top of the water after I added sand, kind of like when you cook lentils and you have to scrape the foam off the top. (It's okay to talk cooking here). I'm going to take some of the sand from my 29, maybe tomorrow and seed the 80. I have some LR also that I can get in there to start the cycle but it means moving a bunch of stuff around in the 29 to get to it. Of course, it's on the bottom in the middle. This should be fun. New live rock should be added next Sunday. Can't wait for that. My torch is chomping at the bit to get in his new digs and really stretch out those stinging nematocysts! He's taking over the 29.
BTW- feel free to take over my thread when I'm not online. No worries. Just watch your p's and q's when I'm here!

Cynthia, crank that thing all way up lady, let er rip. turn on the actinics and sit back with a nice glass of vino and watch it clear up. You can either get a net and scoop the scum out, or it will end up in the sump when you turn on all the pumps. DO IT and get back to us if you can!!!!!!

    Re: My 80 Gallon Reef

So I fired up the overflow but you forgot to tell me to turn on the return pump. Well, I figured it out for myself as the overflow is slowing down and I'm pouring in more RO I thought, something just isn't right. Oh yeah!!! The return pump. DUH!!! So anyway, the scum is down in the sump and the actinics are on. I pulled up a chair and told Hunter that I was going to sit down with a glass of wine and watch my tank. He says, "What are you going to look at?" Geez, some people just don't get it. Also, I've already had wine earlier this evening. Should I have more? Where is our little wine drinker emoticon?

Yes, Robert, microwaving is considered cooking! Nuke away!
