What is the black box on the back right that looks like a hang on filter? Once again you live to close to Charlie, now you get lights.

    Re: My 80 Gallon Reef

that my friend is the baddest skimmer available for tanks in this size range, it's the infamous Remora Pro, darn good skimmer, I've heard you can add some liqud caffenine to the skimmate and not have to make coffee in the morning, No seriously, its the remora pro a very, very good skimmer.

    Tanks,
    Robert

I am not gonna say it is the baddest, but it is affordable and it does it's job.

No no no...I didn't mean to imply you were dummies. Quite the opposite as I was serious when I knew Charlie put one in there.

It's just a very easily overlooked detail, until you do like me and drain a lot of water out of my tank onto the floor because of a power outage. Now I don't forget anymore and don't want anyone else to have to deal with the same problem. Especially in situations like yours where the return is really low in the tank...just throwing in the reminder for everyone.

Hey man, it's all good, just giving you a little ration.

So many people forget them. That is why I ran my returns in the 300 over the top when I redid it in 2008, I didn't want any room for error.

    Re: My 80 Gallon Reef

Now that my water has cleared up beautifully, I have noticed many micro-bubbles all over the main tank. Any way to fix that? Should I put sand and macro-algae in the middle portion of the sump? This may help with the micro-bubbles?

Already signs of life in the new tank. Picked up a little feather duster in the cup of live sand that is dusting away in the corner of the tank.

You are welcome on the salmon recipe. Sorry, I was running around like crazy yesterday late to go show a house when you called and the printer decided to give it to me in Chinese. WTH!

    Re: My 80 Gallon Reef

Cynthia, I believe that the bubbles are just the new plumbing breaking in and getting "slimed". I don't believe you have to worry. I will give it a look when I get over there on Sunday.

    Re: My 80 Gallon Reef

Ok, I've got a couple of educational questions I would like to ask.

In reference to the egg crate and pvc pieces, I am interested to know if this is for stability or ??????, also does the egg crate reside on the bottom of the tank, or does the pvc pieces? Just curious.

    Tanks,
    Robert

    Tanks,

I don't think Cynthia is online, so I will offer up an answer or two. For one, educational???? here??????

Stability and to keep the live rock off of the sand, therefore, not as many dead spaces underneath the rock. The egg crate is 2.5" off the bottom of the tank.

Now, to the good stuff. The first 2 pics are what we started with, and the last 2 are the results. Here you go. The live rock is Totoka, 51 lbs., a testament to Walt Smith live rock!!!!!!!

Doesn't look like much, does it???
