1. If your tank looks like it's about to overflow, it's probably about to overflow.
2. If your tank overflows, use the ball valve. Don't unplug the pump with wet hands.
3. If you plug your pump back in, but your syphon on the overflow broke in all the chaos, you tank will overflow again.

GFCI has saved my ass a few times already. If you don't have your fish stuff in a GFCI outlet you should spend the 30$ and pick one of these up. It could save your life or your house from burning down.
