If I'm in the tank anyways, I use a razor blade, but usually i use a tool i got at petco. it has removable heads for algae, coraline scraping, and a scoop thing.
If yours works though, I'd use it.![]()
O.K., here was my problem... The Coralline algae in my tank has been growing out of my reach for some time. I've bought a couple aquarium scrapers and none of them have worked very well. A razor blade seems to the key to success.
What do you guys use to scrape your glass?
Here is what I have constructed and it has worked pretty well for my tank. But, I'm up for anything that makes tank maintenance easier and more efficient.
1 - Glass scraper with razor blade
1 - 3/4" PVC (4' for my application)
1 - ZipTie

Mine is blue, but they make red too. I would use something else if there was a better solution. You have to be pretty aggressive with this...
I've seen a magfloat with a scraper attachment. has anybody tried those?

I have the Kent scrapers (black things with red blades). The acrylic makes razors blades a no-go. the Kent scrapers work on Coraline algae well, just alot more elbow grease needed (as in it is a real work-out) & holding the blade more perpendicular to the inside surface of the acrylic really helps. I have worn out blades, so resharpening them or just replacing them is very helpful. I have 3 different handle lengths which helps also.Is that the black one with the red attachments? I had NO luck with that scraper. Glad it works for you.I found myself using one side of the blade to scrape because the other side wouldn't make good contact with the glass. I worried that it would scratch my glass.
I have a Kent scraper and alos a little deal like you made up. I spend on the average an hour a week with my coralline, and I will bet if you dripped as much kalk as I do, you would too.

nice tool. i also made a similar devise. i have found that it is advisable to take a file and round off the two corners of the razor blade. decreases the chance of scraping off silicone and scratching the glass....
now this is the kind of thing that boards were invented for !!!!!
