Where you been? & How's the tank? Please check in :)

Hello Gang,

I've noticed that the chatter on our club forum has slowed to the crawl of a turtle. With it being summer I assume everyone is extremely busy with family, work, vacations, etc. So I just wanted to see if we could get everyone to check in and possibly give us an update of their tank, maybe even a picture.

Devon's Update:

I've been quite busy with family and work this summer but when I do get to look at my tank, it looks great! Probably the best it has since it's been up. Clams are happy, corals are growing and my Achilles Tang has found peace with all of his tank mates. The ever expanding mass of Evergreen Star Polyp has started to overcome a few of my corals, so I've had to trim it back a bit. I've also shortened the photo period in my refuge to help with heat issues. I'm pretty sure it gets plenty of light being right next to the window.

I have noticed in a few other tanks that cyanobacteria is reaking havoc. It seems to be on a six month cycle around here.

Hey Devon! glad things are going well on your end. pretty much the same way here. tank is doing good other than needing a glass cleaning...all my new corals are doing well. been busy with work and getting ready for a little girl to be born in dec!

Hi all- I've been occupied with work at the Vet clinic & family stuff also. Matthew is off to college, playing football at UM Western at Dillon...at least until yesterday when he broke a finger (shattered the middle bone of the left ring finger into 6 pieces "just hitting something" on the other guy). We shall see how THAT turns out! I have been showing the 442, doing triathlons also.
Tank is great, i am a lazy @$$ and the acrylic needs a good scrape. THe Reeflo Dart pump died, I repplaced it and sent the old one in to be fixed (now I have a back-up pump. Reeflo is GREAT for customer service. I did not buy the pump from them, but it was still under 3 year manf. warranty and they fixed it for free! Very cool people! pH meter died, I bought a new one have lots of pH readings & everything is calabrated (Charlie!) as of Sunday.pH = 8.03 now (or 8.05)! Fish are doing great, growing, all of the additions from Brandon's tank have fit in well and are growing. Corals are doing well, ditto on Brandon's. Some are rather exploding with growth. I left the camera at the clinic, so used my lame phone camera. You can see fish, corals & algae all living in beautiful balanced aquatic bliss! the camrea sucks, I need to do some scraping! KevinD

I'm here also. I notice of all the sites I go to this is the deadest. Why is that? My tanks are also doing good. Fragging like crazy. I'm thinking I might head over to Spokane this weekend. Had such a good time with the people over there last time.

I finally had a few minutes to check into the forum to see what's new, and I guess everyone else is having a busy summer too. I've been working two jobs this summer, thinking that I needed something to fill up my afternoons. Ha! Faulty thinking on my part. I have plenty to do, and now I'm overwhelmed. I think it's time to fix that . . .

The tank is doing ok, and not much new to mention except a blue and green micromussa I got this spring, which is doing well and growing very s l o w l y. It's a gorgeous dark blue with neon green centers, so I'm looking forward to seeing it grow into a more impressive size. The purple bonsai from Charlie is growing great and is a completely different color in my tank vs his. We were wondering what it would do since I have T5 and it came from halides. Well, it's turned a pastel blue with the neon green polyps. Very pretty. Thanks Charlie. I'll have to get a picture up so you can see it.

I'm still working on hair algae in my tank, and I seem to get it under control at times. It's not taking over, and in fact it seems to be dying back now that I'm paying more attention. The hammer is getting huge and the clown is totally hosting it now - she lays in it, never straying far away and I've even seen her feed it mysis on several occasions. She gets very protective when I stick my hand anywhere near it. She's so cute.

As well, we have a garden again this year that's keeping me busy. I had a garden at our previous place and loved harvest time. Mmmm . . . grilled corn on the cob.

Hi all,
Sounds like many have been busy. Life has returned to normal for us now that kids and wife are back at school. Summer was busy though we went on trip for bout a month so I didn't add much to tank before leavng on trip cuz I didn't want to stress bout losing tank. Had peeps come in feed and keep an eye on it though. It's been fun since getting back adding few fish and considering new corals, I really want to add some color to tank...I've attached pics, some are a bit angled/fuzzy my twins took them lol.

Hey guys I am doing pretty well. My tank has seen better days. I had a dino bloom that destroyed a lot of my coral and 2 of my fish. I am not really sure where it came from. I must have gotten a bad water change or perhaps some bad salt. After doing extensive water changes to no avail. I picked up a GFO reactor from BFS and after running that for about a month the dino was finally defeated. All my acros and my milli died Stuff is finally recovering now and I look forward to better days!
