Picture Questions

Hey Scott-

First of all - what a true jewel your online log is! Thank you so very much.

Secondly, I've already purchased hundreds of $$$ worth of equipment and critters from your high-quality sponsors. I mention this because if they can't track that their businesses were brought to my attention by your tasteful site ads, I want them to know that they were.

Here are my questions:

1. I see that folks are able to post a picture of their tank on their log, but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to do it. It appears that you can only post one there (which will be fine since you have graciously provided us with a personal gallery), but can you delete and update that one? I would like to post updated pics as my tank matures, but not add to my 5MB limit.

2. Along the same lines... can you delete pics from your personal gallery? If not, then I will have to be super-prudent in what pics I post there, because once I reach the 5MB limit, I'm done, right?

3. I've read many posts asking for multiple tank functionality. I know that you have been working hard on this too, and greatly appreciate it! But in the mean-time, as a work around, can't we create and register a sequential username (like in my case "Joe Mac 2") for our additional tanks? Or is this against the rules?

4. Are we allowed to cut and paste the url links to pictures we have placed in our personal gallery into our log so that if we have a picture there on the subject matter of a particular log entry, that it will take us right to it? For example: I make a log entry that I have added a prized brilliant yellow acropora frag to my tank. After uploading a picture of it to my personal gallery, can I cut and paste the url to my log and make it a hyperlink?

5. Can you recommend a pixel size for photos that will maximize our 5MB limit, yet provide good viewing quality?

Thank you for your time and consideration!

BTW- I read your article in Reefkeeper Magazine Online concerning the web log... well done!

Hi Joe, welcome to Reefland!

I can give you a couple of answers, specifically photo sizes. I try and size my pictures to 4x6 @ 72DPI, this exceeds most monitors max resolution of 60DPI so it will give excellent viewing, put the picture will not PRINT worth a crap. These settings should give you file sizes around 50-100 KB's which works out to several HUNDRED pictures in your 5MB gallery.

Also as far as deleting images already in the gallery, there is an option for you to do so, or you can PM me with the filename of the image you want gone, and I will take it out for you.

I'll let Scott answer the rest of your techie questions!

Hi Joe and thank you for the compliment! I apologize for replying 5 months after the fact, but I just seen this.

The uploaded picture is just for the public to see, and you can update it all you want:

That is perfectly fine.

You can link to the image, or you can use the image tags to post it straight into your log.
