Hi Kevin,

Here's a link to full in depth review of this camera, hopefully it will help you out.
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikoncp5200/

It seems that it is a nice little point and shoot camera, reasonably similar to my old CP-885 but with more resolution and power. I'd say leave it and practice alot with it, it should be able to give you decent images for the internet viewing purposes.
It has plenty of controls over WB and has macro/close up mode, if you'll have difficulties with WB after trying it out, post some pictures here and hopefully we all be able to help out. I used all sorts of tricks to full in camera settings, from coffe filters to grey plastic cards taking pictures with my Nikon.

LOL!!! I have used Pringles lids to set WB, I find Sour Cream and Onion to be best...

Congrats on the camera, I think you will be just fine!

There are more switches and settings than I know what to do with but I will keep trying until I get it right
Well, here are my first attempts. The white balance setting is quite helpful for getting the blue/purple out. I think the colors are pretty much how they look to my eyes. I have a problem when I switch from tank to tank because of the different lighting on each of the tanks I have to reset the white balance .

Regards,
Kevin

I just picked up the Canon EOS Rebel XT and haven't had a chance to play around with it too much yet. My tank is empty right now, as I just set it up, so I don't have any pictures to share...... yet! :-)

Here is try #2. I think it came out OK but I would like to hear some other opinions.

Mike,
I made this one at the next higher resolution setting. I dug out my old tripod from the basement because at the higher resolution the camera shake icon would show.

Regards,
Kevin

Excellent work Kevin...

I made a couple minor adjustments to make the color POP even more, and I took the noise out of the background. I think you are off to a GREAT start!

I couldn't help but notice that Kevin's been playing with the new toy again. Since I played copycat, and bought the same camera, would you mind if I threw a couple practice shots up here too ?
By the way, Kevin, that is a great shot shot of your angel. I wish my guys were that photogenic.

Great shots from both of you, guys.

I also picked up a new toy for my camera, 105mm f2.8 macro lens from Sigma. So far I haven't been able to take any pictures with it due to lack of time but I did snap a quick one of my granddaughter. That lens is pretty heavy and shooting handheld is pretty difficult.
Hope you don't mind me posting pic of my baby in your thread guys.

Hehe, I'll let her mother load the shot gun while I'm somewhere else.
I got three granddaughters and I'll definately be jailed if I'm allowed to use one of those "toys" that go boom!

LOL!!

Gene that is a pretty significant UPGRADE from your vivitar. I take it you were not pleased with it and the extension tubes? I am still trying to justify the Canon 100 macro...

Mike, after reading many, many reviews and opinions of many photographers I decided to go with the Sigma. Right of the bat, I can tell that it is very sharp lens and worth the money spent. That particular shot was taken with the lens wide open and hand held. I think with the tripod and a little practice I can take some decent pics with it. I even think that it would be great for portraiture with the perfect bokkeh that it has. I'll take few shots of the tank as soon as I have some free time to play with it and will let you know how I feel about it then.

About the vivtar.... it is ok for the money that it cost, however, the quality is night and day if compared to the Sigma or Canon lenses.
The only thing that I hate about the Sigma is the stupidly designed hood for it( while you have it on you cannot put cover on the lens or anything else-no threads of any kind on the inside and that means no filters either....Stupid!)
