Giving some pics a try

I got the camera out today and tried some tank pics. I figured out the super macro setting, but I'm still having some problems with the %&#$ autofocus, especially on angled shots. Maybe one day I'll figure it out. I also had to resize the pics to 50% to meet size requirements. Anyway, here's the best of the lot.

I still can't figure out how to get them labeled as thumbnails, even though they are. (Bubba can be *REAL* dense sometimes...)

The nicest thing about digital cameras is that you can take a couple hundred pictures and delete all the duds without having to pay to have them developed.

I'll work on the full tank shot... so far, none of them have come out very well. The lights are elevated above the tank, and my camera is too dang automatic. Although I can crop the brightness of the light fixture out, the rest of the picture comes out dark... DOH!

I'm waiting for a camera with A.I. so I can just tell it what to do without trying to remember all the dang menus and without having to read the micro print. Where the heck did I leave my reading glasses?!?!?! grrrr....

Bubba,

After you upload your attachments in the second window, just close the window and do nothing in your message you are typing. You do not have to add the code for the images to show, they will show automatically. Upload the attchments, close the window and type your message as if you weren't adding any pictures.

Pretty good stuff for a first try! Angled shots will almost NEVER turn out, the water and glass of the tank REFRACTS light, meaning it looks blurry. The reason it doesn't look blurry to out eys, is we have BINOCULAR vision, and our BRAIN processes the image to "look" clear. Problem is a camera has MONOCULAR vision, and has no BRAIN! Try and keep the lens as close to perpendicular to the glass as you can.

Hehe... that is a good one!

Ya even the camera I plan on adding is pretty dumb... you would think I would get a brain included for 4K.

Whole tank shots

Ok... I tried putting a black towel over the canopy so that there is no glare. I tried several different settings. Here are two of the best... one cropped, one not. Both are resized.

Please pardon the big blob of epoxy putty in the middle of the tank. The table acropora got knocked over one too many times by the clumsy snails and it stung, punctured and killed two other corals this time. I made sure it won't get knocked over again. I'm not convinced that the pink epoxy looks anything like coralline algae though... you be the judge.

Beautiful tank, Bubba.

The trick with the autofocus and the light that escapes from the canopy:

Point the camera at something else inside the tank and press your shutter button half way to lock your focus, then recompose the shot and press all the way. It worked for me with my Nikon P&S camera and with both of my Rebels as well. The towel shure did the trick though. ;)
Kind regards,

Gene.
