Not fish related pictures
Hey Mike,
I stopped one day with my granddaughter on the way from her school at the small lake and snapped few shots with the Sigma 24-135mm f2.8 lens that I have. I need you to tell me what you think of this( I am thinking of maybe selling this lens as well) before I make a decission on selling it or not. I like the range it gives me but often lots of shots come out not as crisp or sharp as I want. So, I started to thinking about an idea to just sell all of my lenses and get one, or two L lenses. Need to think about the focal range though. I know you have 24-70L lens, do you use it alot or is it in the bag for long periods? I guess my main question is would you keep this relatively cheap lens judging by this images I attached?

Sorry I didn't see this before now Gene, I guess I need to quit relying on the "New Posts" option.
Those look pretty good to me, but what f stop did you use? Almost any lens looks good @ f8. As far as how often do I use that 24-70, well it is on the camera 90% of the time! I use my 70-200 for sports, and some portraits, also wedding work from the back of the church. The main reason L glass is so expensive is because it is so SHARP, even at f2.8. here is a shot from my 70-200 @ f2.8 and ISO3200! ![]() I know you asked about the 24-70, well I have GALLERIES full of those, here: http://perfectpix.smugmug.com/ Actually the exif is posted on most of my galleries, so you can get an idea. |

Thanks for reply, Mike. Most of the shots that day were shot at f9 and ISO400. For some reason, anything above 400 produces real bad noise and I personaly think it is more of a camera problem than the glass I use.
Those shots you had taken are unbelievable at ISO 3200 and f2.8. I had taken some shots at f2.8 with that lens and those were pretty decent images, but again, ISO had to be 400 or post processing becomes unbearable in terms of time it takes. ![]()

Bad noise over 400???
Can you send me some examples? Just set up a tripod and take pictures of your tank, something with both strong highlights and shadows. Similar to my "ISO" thread, you should not be seeing any noticeable noise till you get to 1600! I have shot entire weddings @ 1600, and regularly use 800 with no issues! Heck most of the pictures I have taken of my tank that are posted here are shot with my 20D and ISO 800, which has the same sensor as your XT. If you do have a faulty sensor, that could also be causing your WB issues. Anyway, post some high ISO shots, and I will see what I think, then try and post some from my 20D of similar content so we can compare. You know that 30D will be hitting the market pretty soon.... HAHA not that you need ANOTHER camera! |

Will do, Mike.
I agree, it may be the sensor and if it is I'm out of luck since the warranty is probably done. I'll have to check on the warranty and see what could be done if it is something sensor related. You know, for the life of me I can;t figure out what posessed me to get another Rebel, I should've just get that 20D and be done with it. ![]()

THat is what I thought you would have done, but that rebel has most of the features of a 20D for less cash.
Canon is pretty good about repairs generally, I would hope they could take care of that for you. |

Well, I went thru and found an old thread about non-fish related pics, since that's about the only ones I can take for awhile. Look what I found in my front yard yesterday at about 5PM.

Jokes aside, those are great shots,Charlie. I only saw black bear once from a window while visiting Pocono mountains about 10 years ago. All I can say is that I wished I was interested in photography then. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Gene, This is the most we have seen in one year. He has been around all summer, Fish and Game won't even come up and take a look. I usually keep the garage closed because we do keep our garbage in there, now I can't even keep it open when I am around, that sucks!!!!! |

I know what you mean, Charlie. Those beasties can be a real pain in the butt. All of my friends who ever owned a vacation house in the Poconos had issues with those bears trying to raid a garbage and get into the house and stuff... I probably wouldn't care much if it was just going after the garbage bags but if it was trying to get into my house him and I would have some issues...and I would have to show him a business end of the shotgun or something...
What time is this fella usually comes around? Early evening or morning?

He is not timely whatsoever. I have seen him all times during the day. This was the first time I had seen the whole body tho.
If he gets too close, I am prepared, believe me!!!! ![]() ![]() |

I think these qualify:
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Yup, "he who must not be named" landed right across the street from where I work. I took these from a "grassy knoll" about 50 yards from the final approach. No one even asked me what I was doing there, but I am quite sure someone saw me.... When this big plane came in, it closed the expressway, Bristol Rd. and several other surface streets for a few minutes. They closed them all again before he took off. Funny that no one stopped me from getting as close as I did, walking. What a PITA it was to go home today thanks to you know who.... |
