opinions needed for getting a new camera

Hi,
sorry this is so long...I am looking to get a new all purpose camera, point & shoot (I'm not good with gadgets ), My Kodak easy share died, I got it at Bestbuy, with warranty, and it's a model that's been discontinued. So I will probably get in store credit, about $230, & I can add to that to get a better camera .

But I'm not sure which one to get, there are too many to choose from. Useage will range, I want to be able to print some off for sending to family, my son races motorcross, and then the aquariums, and of course family stuff, so a general purpose, oh, & short video/movie clips. I'm looking at about $300-$400 price range. My boss and a good friend have Olympus, so maybe the Olympus 810-top of the line model...

any opinions? HELP!

Jackie

There are SO MANY point and shoots on the market now, and ALL of them are prett decent cameras. I think the best thing to do is go look at them, hold them in your hand, and see what FEELS best. I like Canon, Sony, and Nikon best myself, but Oly is not bad either. Panasonic actually makes some VERY nice p&S cams, I think they are "Lumix" models. I hate to be so broad, but there are only a couple of cameras that do NOT share components with each other, so most of the cameras are "the same" parts in a different box! Hence why you would buy the one that "feels" the best!

i think you should go on www.dpreview.com and look at the "in depth review" articles. Easy to read and very informative. On a side note for my point and shoot camera i bought a sony PSC-200 and love it. You can also get good deals on camera on www.bensbargains.net. it just may take a while to scroll through the crap.

goodluck!
