Wide angle lens ??
Mikeor Gene or both of you.
![]() Would a wide angle lens be a good one to take to a nascar race? I think we are also going to try to make a side trip to the Grand Canyon and maybe Brice canyon in Utah. I was of the mind that a wide angle would be good for some panoramic shots. Would I be correct in that? I am not looking to spend a whole load. and I found this at B&H: Canon Wide Angle EF 35mm f/2.0 Autofocus Lens What do you think? |

I wouldn't really consider 35mm wide angle though. Remember you have a crop factor of 1.6X. So a 35mm acts like a 56mm. I would think that something as large as the canyon though, almost anything wider then 70 would work. Make sure to take your 70-200 too, because the the zoom will give some impressive compression on perspective.
When you asked for a wide angle, the first thing that came to mind was the 17-40 that Gene just bought.... |

Would the 24mm be a better choice than the 35mm?

What glass do you have now? Do you have the 17-55 kit lens? I kind of view this purchase as a 1 timer for you Charlie, unless you plane to do more landscape shots then just this one trip, I would work with what you have. For as much as I hate to say it, it is like my photography business, I can't justify a $500 purchase for taking pictures of my tank, when I could spend that money on a camera purchase that could be used to make money...
Any of the wide primes will be a fantastic lens, however I just want you to be sure that it is a lens you will use more then once. ![]() |

The kit lens is a 18-55. Thanx man, I may hold off and see what happens and do exactly as you said. Then I can make a decision based on the pics I bring home. Thanx for all the input!!!! Oh, Good Morning

I would say the couple hundred you save on the lens purchase could be put to good use ON THE TRIP! I hear they raise bunnies near Las Vegas..... :slap:

Tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124AF Pro DX Lens I pass on this one due to the fact that I probably wouldn't use it much as well, unlike 17-40L that I have that I use for almost everything other thn portrait shots.
