Good work, Charlie! Thanks for sharing with us.

Which lens did you end up using the most?

This was a whole weekend worth of racing, Friday to Sunday.

Thanx Gene, it was pretty much split between the 18-55 and the 28-135. I had the 70-200 on a little bit on Friday, but I got tired of lugging 3 lenses around. We did alot of walking around that 1.5 mile track. I am getting to old for that stuff.
That and the fact that it was in the 80's all weekend, I darn near broke into a sweat.

Re: Race Weekend Remebered....... Kinda

No, not really. Technically, we don't exactly fix phones anymore, deregulation has taken care of that. I mostly work out in the field splicing copper cable.

sorry bout that

James -- like the guy from British telecom who climbs the pole when the phone line goes dead.... I don't know what that is in British! My best friend, )who is married to a guy from Yorkshire) and I have this conversation all the time: "What is American/British for _____?" The most recent was what is American for the british insect you all call Junnie long legs (or something....).

Re: Race Weekend Remebered....... Kinda

Charlie, those are pretty good. It looks like you had a good time. Here are a couple of pointers for next time though:

Put the camera into "SPorts Mode", that will activate the focus tracking motor. It also sets the ISO to 400, but that is not a concern for you really. Once you have done that, you should put the center AF spot on your subject long before you intend to take the picture. This allows the camera some time to track the object and get a "feel" for its speed. Once the car gets to you, press the button, but make sure YOU keep moving with the camera, this will help with panning. I like to turn at the hips, that way I am using a larger muscle group.

These are just me being a picky photographer, but I think it will help you to learn for next year! I still think you did well, and these are certainly good enough to keep around for the memories!

That advice is as good as gold Mike. I always wondered about that. I have this printed and stashed in the camera bag already. Thank you.
Is that what caused a little fuzziness on some of the moving car pics?

Re: Race Weekend Remebered....... Kinda

Yup, especially the ones of them coming out or in to the pits.... If you notice, the guys in the background are sharp/in focus. The camera focused on them rather then the car. If you had put the center focus point on the car earlier, and tracked it in, then you would have had more shots where the car was sharp.

I haven't had the chance to do a race yet, but this is what I would do to start with....then make adjustments from there.

Re: Race Weekend Remebered....... Kinda

Thanx again, I wish I had time to go to another race to try this out.
That is why I printed this out, my memory seems to fail me at times.

Great pics Charlie I only seen one small problem, there went any pics of the 24 . Next year If I cant go, I'll request pics of Jeff and the #24. Other than that slight oversight, they are great
