About LinkBacksI like them! Do you have an external flash? A little fill could really help POP the subject from the background. If you get an EX series light, you can do this, and it ROCKS!
Set the camera to M and expose for the background.
Set the flash to ETTL
You may have to set your flash to high speed sync too, but it is worth it.
Overall I think you are off to a great start, keep at it.

no i dont have an external flash, cant afford it, which is a bummer.
but if i ever do ill try that out.

today i have some pics of me skating as i took a break for shooting and did some skating
and also a few of a mate doing some tail whips and turn downs they didnt come out how i wanted a little over exposed but i did as best as i could with them i CS2 and all is not lost.
P.S. Im the one with the beard

Hey, neat pics James, but I gotta agree with Scott on this one!!!! There is nothing like good old terra firma.
Just a question, don't they make you guys wear helmets at your skate parks. Where I am at, if you don't have a helmet, they won't let you in the place.400 Gallon Reef Log

On image 6, you can see the shadow coming in from the left, but James' face is lit. Unless we suddenly have 2 suns, (
)there had to be light coming from the direction of the camera.
Also, I believe this was on camera pop up, as James stated he doesn't have an external flash yet, that is why he looks so pail. Using flash as fill in bright sunshine is one of those things in photography that is easy to learn but difficult to master. (Balancing ambient and flash so that it is not obvious that flash was used.)

I think I see what you are saying. Man, this hobby is as bad as a reef tank, so much to learn. Thank God I don't make my living doing either.
