    Smile Some update pics

There is a bunch, but what else you gonna do when it is 26 degrees outside, and you haven't seen the sun in 3 days.

Mike or Gene, feel free to let me know what is going on!! On a few of these, I feel as tho I am not in focus, or focusing on the wrong thing, I don't know!!! I may have to delve back into the book and do a little research.

    Re: Some update pics

    Hi Charlie,

I don;t think any of this images are out of focus. If anything, I think they lost some sharpness and color vibrance due to compression when you resized them to save. And, perhaps you were shooting at the angle to the glass?
Try sharpening after you resize your images and then save them. Do you save them in image ready or photoshop(save as) ?
First two images are really nice except for the crop, they could be cropped differently I think. Watch Mike, he'll really let you have it for cropping subject in the center...

Palythoa picture simply has motion distortions, otherwise it is a nice composition vertically. You can bump up shutter speeds to freeze motion, or maybe ISO. I personally hated shootin higher ISO settings with the Rebel, size of that sensor is not all that great with the higher ISO settings. Anything over 400 I had problems with.
Maybe Mike knows few tricks to get around it, though.

Anyway, keep shooting and post some more. I like softies and all your fish are great looking!

    Kind regards,

    Gene.

    Re: Some update pics

You know Gene, I thought about that after I cropped them and looked at them again, About shot myself in the foot, huh? I shot most of those in Av, except for the first 2 fish pics, I got lazy with those and shot in auto focus.
I was doing some reading last nite and I really need to shoot more with manually doing everything, if nothing else, I will learn more.
I have noticed that things get really grainy when I shoot with 400 ISO, I haven't even tried anything above that.

I save the images for the web in Photoshop Gene, but I never thought of sharpening after cropping or resizing.

Thanx for the suggestions. I will try some more either today or tomorrow. I need to replumb the drain to the 80.

    Re: Some update pics

Well.... Aside from the crops that Gene already mentioned, this set of images lacks true Black on all but the last. This is one of those areas that you really can't see unless you are on a calibrated monitor though.

Try this, in PS open levels, you will see 2 sliders, on the top one, grab the triangle on the left edge and move it towards the center. Better? YUP!

As for save for web, I'll email you an action that will help with the sharpness.

I really like your Trigger, but he has no where to go..... ;) He is REALLY cramped in that crop.

Make sure to give ISO 800 a look Charlie, you can lose most of the noise in post, with Noise Ninja, or even the noise reduction built into Adobe.

Ok, got you on the levels. That is better than the Auto levels??

Think of it like a school of yellow tangs in your LFS

I will look into the noise reduction Mike, thanx!!!!

No Problem Charlie, and yes I like to adjust levels all by myself, with PS doing it for me.... ;)

You know, I only use auto color in post processing because it gives me perfect results and truer color rendition than my auto white balance can. Auto WB isn't bad but auto color usually works better for me, plus I can control how much correction to apply with the slider.
I never used auto levels because it doesn't correct anything, or very little. I always correct it myself, especially the black point, like Mike mentioned.
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

    Damn, back to Kelby's book.

You know the problem is, once you get out of taking pics, (aquarium), getting back into it is tough for me. Ready for some more whine.
