New lens!

Well I must say it was good reads on taking photos, I'm in the mood for a new lens, shooting a Nikon D70 with a 28-80 f2.8 pro lens. I'm not sure what would be the next lens to add to that, I was considering maybe a 50mm f1.8 or maybe a mid range 70-300mm of some sorts. which one would be most used? I'm leaning on the 50mm f1.8 for more inside shots portrait's?

Re: New lens!

Thanks! I am glad that you enjoyed the stickies.

As for another lens, I would say a true Macro would be an ideal next lens. I must say that I am not framiliar with Nikon model names, but I do have friends that have been very happy with the Tamron 90mm Macro on their Nikon cameras. If you are looking for a more versatile lens, then a zoom would be a great choice, but you have spoiled yourself with that constant aperture 24-70, if you get a mid level zoom, you will notice your images are much SOFTER then what you get now, also you will notice the new lens will focus slower and will hunt for focus.

A constant aperture zoom will like a 70-200 f4 or even better a 2.8 will perform much better.

Re: New lens!

Well a constant 70-200 would be out of budget right now but a 90mm macro sounds nice, probably would do a better job than the 50mm I was looking at. The lens I have now is a Tokina AT-X Pro 28-80mm 1:28 It is a beast. I would say the D70/D80 are comparable to the XTi series body is a little bigger & heavier.
