Not much more to say here Gene, I can't type to good when I am drooling anyways.
Those are excellent.
I finally broke down and bout an extension tube, Canon EFII 12mm, for my EF-S 60mm macro lens. Took couple of practice shots last night to see if 80 bux were well spent and must add that I am pleased with it. I mean air is air but I couldn't find any second party tubes to accept EFS mount lenses, except Ebay and I'm not going there ever again.
Anyhow, I'll attach few sample shots for your critique. Couple of last shots were cropped slightly.

Excellent!
I thought I responded to this thread already, did we lose some posts?
Thanks guys!
Mike, we did loose some of the posts as they were probably posted after Scott finished back ups. We lost some attachments as well but I uploaded these to my gallery and edit this thread so it doesn't look stupid without images and me asking for comments...
Scott has enough on his plate this past few days I can tell you that... It's still amazes me how quickly he got most of the things functioning again.![]()

Okay.... I feel better now. I thought I lost my mind for a second.
No doubt Scott is AWESOME! This site has the least downtime of any board that I go too, even the smaller local boards have more issues then Reefland does.
Great job Scott!
Very nice shots Gene. I've never used an extension tube (never really knew what they were for to be honest. LOL). Only a 1.4x extender before on my big lenses for distance. Is this the same type of thing?
Actually, I don't think I've ever run into any downtime here at Reefland. Definitely top notch.
I admit that I'm looking at a few of the posts here and where it shows an attachment, the photo isn't there...it's just the link to the photo and if you click on it, it opens a separate window/tab, but with nothing there but the link name. That's the only issue I've seen thus far. I've been out sick the past week or so and really haven't been on till today, so maybe this is being currently handled?
Anyway, nice shots as always Gene.![]()

Hi Mat,
Sorry to hear of your illness, hope you feel better soon...![]()
As far as attachments go, yes, Scott is still working on uploading whatever attachments that he was able to back up prior to shutting the site down.
Things will go back to normal soon enough, though.
Mat, an extension tube is just that, a tube with nothing in it but air...I've never used an extension tube (never really knew what they were for to be honest. LOL). Only a 1.4x extender before on my big lenses for distance. Is this the same type of thing?
Extenders, teleconverters are different in that sense that they do have optics in them. Extension tube has some contacts for the circuitry of the lens so you can use AF and magnification occurs because you are moving the lens further away from the sensor. Hope that makes sense because I've been known to butcher the language pretty good...
And another thing, with the extension tube you loose some of your focusing distance. You cannot set your lens to infinity and focus on anything, if you move away more than 12-14 inches in my case... ;)
Kind regards,
Gene.

Hmm.... I wonder what a lineup of 500D, 70-200 2.8, then a 25mm tube would give?
Well, you got the gear for a trial run, Mike?
I have EF extension tubes that I can use with all the EF mounts. Got those Kenko's set of tubes. Much cheaper than Canon's version of air...
PS. Mike, if you look at the Kenko's set it does not have a 25mm tube, 12,20 and 36mm is what's on their set. I am sure Canon might have something different, though, you have to justify the extra bux... LOL
Kind regards,
Gene.

I have all but the tubes Gene. Could I borrow that Kenko tube for a trial run?
Kind regards,
Gene.

If you wouldn't mind shipping the set, it would allow me to play a bit. Heck I may end up just buying that whole set based on what the results are.
Thanks Gene!
Mike, can you PM me your address? I deleted most of my PM's before the site went down, so all the addresses I had saved are lost.![]()
I'll stick that tube set in a box today and drop at the post office tomorrow if you give me your address.
Here are few more shots I took with that set up I mentioned earlier.
A very small colony of A.echinata that I got from the fragfarmer some time ago. It sure takes a long time to grow into small colony, probably over a year now.
I think this was sold to me as A.yongei, tan with purple tips. It is all purple now... and I don't think this is A.yongei at all.
And I have this seriatopora with blue polyps fragment that is growing nicely on the sand bed. For some reason the polyps come out more purple than blue in the pictures.

Sure will Gene! I like all but the first in your last set, that one lacks a true black, an easy fix though...
