Eeew! a spider!

Just kidding around, I like spiders as long as they're not crawling around on me while I'm sleeping!

I was doing my fall clean-up this morning when I found this big fatty...
Her butt or whatever it is is about 3/4" !!!

Anyone know what kind of spider this is?

Re: Eeew! a spider!

Did you find it inside the house, or outside?

outside, I didn't bother him since he wasn't in my way, I think if he would have been in the house he would of been toast!
He was on the pipe that leads to the Hydro meter.

Re: Eeew! a spider!

Probably just your run of the mill garden spider Louise, they look bad but they are no problem, at least I haven't had any problem with them. We name ours!!!!

Re: Eeew! a spider!

I had one or two of the named ones up north at our summer cottage. They were out back in the crapper, they were so big you could hear them walk! And I'm not kidding. They didn't bother me but if my daughter had to go in there I would have to go in first and do a check!

Re: Eeew! a spider!

Been in a few outhouses myself!!! I always took a can of bug killer with me, I figured if I could stun them at least, I would have a chance to get out alive.

Yes we do and the ones we had at the cottage were wolf spiders.
I just found the one in my pics, it's an Orb-Weaving Spider (Aranaeus diadematus).

Re: Eeew! a spider!

I do know that they make great webs Louise, just like you see in the pics, big ol' round webs, the things of spider dreams.

Re: Eeew! a spider!

I have always known them as a "garden spider". They are really cool. Try throwing a fly or an ant in its web and watch the spider attack and wrap the bug up into a cocoon! Then you can watch the spider eat!!!

I saw one munch a yellowjacket a couple of days ago, and I couldn't tear myself away.
