Well, when I'm bored I usually go to sleep but today I decided to try something new...take boring pictures of my reef tank. :eek3:
This little guy turned out to be a real camera hog, I can;t take a picture without him poking his head in.
And more fish...My bristletooth tang becoming a real pest in terms of wrecking havoc with the sand bed.
And this guy freaks out every time he sees my shadow...

Hey Gene,
What kind of fish is that one you said freaks when he sees you shadow?
He's pretty cool looking, I don't think I've ever seen one.
Robert
Hi Robert,
It's a rabbitfish, Siganus virgatus. All those spines on his fins are venomous, so care should be taken when handling this fish. ;)
He's definitely matured from the time I first got him (in 2004).
I also took a whole tank picture, so I'll post it here.
And this is picture of the Vermetid snails on my clam, I need to take that poor guy out and scrape those things off.
And this one here is a purple digitata, I kinda like growing margins on it.
Can you tell I'm bored? It's not snowing today but I'm still bored...

Nice looking tank, I do love that purple digitata, I am going to be going to the lfs mid week, see whats available, time to add a coral, or maybe a coral and Royal Gramma or basslet, depends on what they got and how they look. will have to see, the 55 is doing good, real good, like I said it's time for an addition.
Robert
Gene,
I love that second picture, the one that shows the color of your flasher wrasse's anal fin.
Whatever happened to the Siganus unimaculatus that you got back in 2003?
Ninong
Thank you, George!
That poor fish was in my anemone tank and lasted as long as it could...I found it behind the tank dry as a bone one day. Must of jumped out at night or something. I don't know how I didn;t notice him being absent until it was too late.
Can;t remember what year it was exactly, probably in 05 or 06.
This current rabbitfish in my 75 is a horse...but eats like a pig.![]()

Gene.

Gene,
I don't think you should keep anything in that anemone tank except clownfishes. I think you should remove the yellow tang and stick it in the 75-gal tank. It would have a lot more usable space in the 75 than it has right now in the 110. That could be why the foxface jumped.

This coming week I will be removing all large fish from my 75g tank, I think guy is coming on Thursday to help me out.
I am hoping(really crossing my fingers here) that I will be able to sell this 110g anemone tank this spring. We are in the process of replacing hardwood floors in the entire upstairs floor and downstairs will be next. I asked for delay on that until late spring and my wife agreed.
So, both tanks will have to go.
I was given OK to get a new tank for my office here, as large as I can fit, and I don't have to have hardwood floor in that room...Floors are concrete so I can just do some improvising and get small area rug.
I don't know if I will be able to save anything from my 75g or not. Maybe if I plan carefully I can save the wrasses and maybe few frags?
I like to start fresh with all new stuff, though.
Anyway, that;s all in the future, as far as that yellow tang is concerned it is fine in there. It;s been there since 98 (first fish added) and after I put Korallia 4 in there and MJ1200 anemones all staying low and he got all tank to swim around. I will be sad to see that fish go, that;s for sure.
Kind regards,
Gene.

I think you could sell ALL of your rose bubble-tip anemones on eBay for pickup only. How far are you from NYC? Are you more than an hour's drive away? If you're close enough to NYC, that's a very big market.
Just advertise them as $49.00 Buy Now price for pickup only. Will not ship. They should be gone in no time at all. If you ask $69 or $79 or $129, it could take you forever to get rid of them. I'm sure you don't want the hassle of shipping them and then having to deal with something going wrong with the handling of the package, especially this time of the year.
I don't know how long you will be 'between tanks,' but I have heard of guys 'boarding' their fish with the LFS for a nominal charge just like you would board your dogs or cats with the vet when you go on vacation. The LFS just puts all of your fish in the same holding tank and charges you a daily or weekly fee for taking care of them for you.
I think I remember reading about that a few years back. The situation was that the guy was being transferred to a new city all the way across the country from where he was then living. He knew it would be impossible to move his huge reef tank with all of the corals and fish, so he decided to sell the corals and all of the equipment but he was very attached to his fish and he didn't want to lose them, so he made a deal with his LFS to 'board' his fish for a few weeks while he got settled into his new house and had time to set up a new aquarium there. When his new tank was all set up and running, his old LFS shipped all of his fish to him. Probably a very expensive way to go but the guy just didn't want to part with fish that he had had for several years.
In your case, you wouldn't have any shipping costs. That's assuming you would be able to set up your new tank in the condo without too much delay after taking down your old tanks. Did you ever figure out how big you can go with the new tank? I vote for that 250-gal Starphire tank, the one you really want.

Yeah, I wouldn't have to deal with shipping. I'm 15 minutes away from my LFS.Originally Posted by Ninong
Also, I am not setting up any tanks in my condo yet. I am talking about my house actually. We'll start tearing out old hardwood floor on the 17th of this month, but will delay doing anything downstairs until spring. My wife wants hardwood floors laid over the ceramic tiles that are there now.(which I installed myself, by the way... in 84) I guess she hates it now.
I think you are right, I can ask my LFS to hold my wrasses for me and maybe even few corals that I may want keep. I will need to get new live rock, of course... I hope I can get it cheaper from my LFS all cured. I mean I'll buy it and have them cure it in the tubs in their basement.
That 250 would be real nice, I'm sure. I think I can fit it in with little furniture moving.
Kind regards,
Gene.

How can you possibly install hardwood floors on top of your ceramic tile? Won't that make the floor too high?
Yeah, you should definitely do the 250. That's the way to go!

Downstairs floor will be enginered product that is about half inch thick and upstairs will be the regular red oak with gunstock finish(color that is), just imagine color of well aged cognac...![]()
That enginered flooring is glued togeter and not to any subflooring. It has about two refinishes in it, so I hope she changes her mind altogether.
Although they do guarantee at least 10 years before first attempt at refinishing.
Anyway, I will see what that 250g starphire front would run me. Just the tank as I intend to build my own stand. I hate all those stands that come with the tanks because they all are too low. I am sure I can build one from some 4x4's or 2x4's.
Kind regards,
Gene.

Wow, missed a bunch here!!!! I got so busy setting up this computer yesterday that I totally spaced the forums and all the other good stuff that goes with that!!!!!
Gene, the only thing that really worries me about the new tank is the fact that you have had problems with someone taking care of your present system in the past. Are you going for total automation with this thing????

I wanna come help build! Very nice pictures Gene. Is the last one an ORA tri-color Valida? I didn't notice the color of the anal fin until Ninong pointed it out. Absolutely amazing.

DOH! I missed this too....
Gene, i think you could finance your entire new build with RBTA sales. The LFS in my area gets $149 each for them!!!!They are trying to propagate them in the "back room" but NOTHING like you have!
