hey Brandon, if I were you I would run down to Missoula and find a camera shop down there and do a little looking around and asking some questions. remember, if you buy a SLR you are gonna have to get lenses too!!!!

I wrote this a long time ago but there's still some helpful info in this article. Basically though, the dslr will give you maximum creative opportunity but it's at the sacrifice of size and wallet impact. There are plenty of point and shoots (non-dslr's) that will let you choose the settings yourself too though.

Thanks for the help, but I blew out the transfer case in my 96 Dodge, only has 254763 "farm" miles on it. I'll now have to wait till after the new years to get a camera
