I just picked up a Magnesium test kit (Sali Fert) at the advice of Barry to check my levels in my two tanks.
Both came back low 30 gal. reef is reading 1110ppm and my 75 gal.reef is reading 1140ppm. I read an article on the web which really did'nt help much or I just did'nt understand what was being said. But it stated some reasons for low Mag. levels are Salinity levels and type of salt being used. The salinity level in both tanks are 1.024 and I am using Reef Crystals from Aquarium Systems. What can I use to bring this level up to where it belongs? And what are the down side to running a low Mag level? Thanks for any assistance John

Which article was it?This one?
http://www.animalnetwork.com/fish/li...&RecordNo=2856 I've found that lower levels of Magnesium makes it much harder to maintain balanced calcium and alkalinity. To Bring it up I use ESV mag. additive.

Ditto to Gene's comments. If you can't get your calcium levels to the desired level, Magnesium is something to check out. There are probably some other magnesium additions on the market but ESV's come to my mind.

This one might help you a little bit also.I have to read them several times to get the understanding,I even print them out to read,so the correlation of them all sinks in.I just wish I paid more attention in school sometimes.
