Question New clam tank setup questions

Well I have ordered 2 new tanks last week but wont be setting them up for about 6 months when I move but getting them now so I have them when I move.
I have a 24x24x16 40 gall acrylic clam tank with a 6" slanted front at the top for viewing on order and a 100 gall 60x18x23 glass tank for my lps tank coming also.
Here is where I have not decided how I want to set up the clam tank.
I will either set it up on its own with a sump and skimmerless since there will be only 1 fish in there a wrasse of some sort should pyramid snails sneak in so bio load will be very light so going skimmerless and have had success before with skimmerless sps-clam tank before.
I will be going with about about 500 gph for water flow in the clam tank with a SCWD on the return and probably a small power head in there in case the return pump or some thing happens to stop flow on the return as a backup.
OR
Have the clam tank plumbed into the same sump as the 100 with a skimmer but my only problem with this is they will have to be next to each other and if some thing goes wrong with one then they both go wrong. Good part is more water volume for each and easier to keep calcium levels up for clame tank since LPS tank doesnt use much calk.
So what do you think would be better?

Any thoughts or better ideas?

I am thinking of setting up a very sim. clam tank.(trying to convince my wife really). I would have the two tanks seperate just incase one crashes. Sharing water volume would save on skimmers and Ca reactors, but with my luck one would crash and wipe out the other. Just my 2cents.

Gregg,

I am with Steve on that. I run all my tank seperate, just incase something goes wrong with one, I won't loss them all.

Remember the one days when I had 2 tanks joined and in one tank my Xenia crashed and I lost both tanks. Been there, done that.

Sounds like I will run it seperatly. Most opions have been that way.
Do you thing going skimmerless with only a sixline wrasse for fish would be good then and I would have some calurpa in the sump and feed DT's or do you think I would be better off using a smaller skimmer. I would prefer skimmerless so I am not pulling out alot of the stuff the smaller clams need to feed on plus I will only have a 20 gall tank for a sump so that will tight to get a skimmer in there plus calurpa and the other stuff that goes in there.

I will only have 1 0r 2 small wrasses ,sixline unless I can find one more rare that will do the same job and stay under 3 inches. in it for bad the baddie snails. and I do water changes at least once a month and am doing 2 this month on my tanks.
Do you have any idea if a carpenters wrasse would do as good of a job as a sixline or even better one of the possum wrasses.

Think someone was also saying that they have some thing like a wrasse that will do the job as well . I think they help but as you know, they don't do a 100%.

Will have to do some research then and see what I can come with for a rarer wrasse that will stay smaller and do the same job.
