Can't relate...
My clowns, though curious, will also jump in the net. You seriously tried to spear the fish with a steak knife? Didn't Jeffrey Dahmler start out that way? ![]()

if you cant relate -you probably havent been at this long enough..
i was talking to a couple freinds last night that were laughing their asses off-both said they would never put clowns in their tanks again because of similar experiences.. yes i really did try,and im sorry i missed..i wonder what clownfish tastes like?i know filipinos eat them sometimes..gotta be at least as good as human flesh -i would think besides ,its ok to spear fish guys-they dont have any feelings. seriously though-youre clowns will swim into the net??...i can only wish mine were as stupid.id have to tear the tank apart to get them out ... |

Yes my stupid clowns swim into the net.
They do not fear me...I'm sure I could grab them with my hands. ...and in kind, I don't have life threatening temper tantrums in front of them. ![]() Not as symbiotic as an anemone, but effective enough. Maybe if you stay with it long enough you too can have similar results.

nah..no thanks -ive got my own and the collective exp of others ...clowns are(well can be -every situation is different) a real hassle...do you have alot of corals and sand?...clowns seem to want the tank the way they like it-but im the creator of that "universe" not them...wish i had a lighnig bolt
theyre just fish after all -i could just as soon eat them as keep them in a tank ![]() |

I got lots of sand, lots of corals, lots of fishes and lots of clown experiences. I have a 5 Ocellaris in my tnak right now, two Pink Skunk, I had pairs of Percula and pairs of Maroon clowns in my other tanks in the past. I never have any problem with my clowns like you have.

well -maybe its just mine alex's and joe's clowns eh?
they dont kick up sand in youre tank minh? thats something that ive ALWAYS had a problem with-in all three of the reefs ive had-two different sets of clowns -its only recently that my clowns have decided theyre going to put corals where they want them -i mean ,the little b!tch(female) carried a monti frag ACROSS THE TANK and dropped it ..all the way in a corner where she NEVER goes... maybe my tank is too small for clownfish ![]() |

I've had my pair of Ocellaris clowns for over 7 years and I have never had a problem with them bothering any corals or stirring up the sand.

It is a conspiracy...
Actually, if your posting a thread suggesting people not to get clownfish, I think it is very appropriate for others (mods or others) to post their experience whether it mimics yours or not. With that said...
I've had clownfish in each of my tanks since I have been keeping marine animals and never have had the problems that you have experienced. Even today, I have a pair of black A, Occellaris and they are the perfect gentlemen (I'm not sure if the "larger" of the pair has turned female yet). They are a very hardy fish and a great addition to any tank IMO. As you said though, everyone's situation is different. I hope you'll find a peaceful solution to your "problem" versus stabbing the guy with a knife, that wouldn't go over very well. Regards, |

Clownfishes in reef tank is so popular and so common that advice people to not put clown fish in a tank seem highly unsual at best.
IMO, at least 50% or more of reef tanks have some sort of clownfish in it. Maybe we should have a poll and see how many tanks have and how many tanks have no clownfish in it. Minh

Organic,
I feel your pain, dude I wouldn't stab my clownfish with the knife but if I could catch my female clarkii,I would take her back in a flash. I saw her picking up atleast 2lb rock and move it and she bit me many many times. I still love the little beast, just have to make sure when i reach into tank I keep my eye on her whereabouts. I should of bought a pair of perculas instead![]()

Which clownfishes are best for reef tank?
IMO, Ocellaris, Percular or Pink skunk are the best clownfises for reef tank. Other clownfishes are either get too large or too aggressive. I had a pair of Maroon clown before and think that they are beautiful, but they are big and aggressive with other fishes. Organicreefer, which clownfish species do you have problem with? Minh Nguyen

I'm no MOd but I do have a pair of Ocellaris in my 135.... ANd Absolutely no problems ever, they occupy a portion on the tank in the upper left and seldom venture to the other side of the tank much less re-arrainge anything. I do have some sort of blue damsel in there that kicks up a little sand now and again, but the way the fish swarm to the copepods or other sand critters that he stirs up I figure they are having a snack b4 mealtime....
Anyway no horror story from me or my friend Matt, he has an Ocellaris and a true Perc and neither cause any grief. Mike |

I have one or more clowns in almost every tank I set up for customers. Great fish. I do get one on ocassion that test my patience. Some love to waggle in the sand and send it every where. Some( mostly the Amphiprion percula ( true percula) and the A. ephippium (red saddleback) tend to bite when I clean the tank. Some like to move small stones or crushed coral with their mouths.
I love them. Ray |

How can you not love them?
Organic, since the knife thing didn't work you could try one of these: If that doesn't get the job done you might have to move up to: Just messin' with ya. Sorry to hear that they are causing you trouble. Even though you are giving the old "thumbs down" to the clowns, i think i will still have a go at it when my tank is up and running. Hope i get a pair of well behaved ones. ![]()

![]() scott -i dont have a problem with what anyone posted here-i think all the posts have been very appropriate to the subject.i know there are lost of people who have never had a problem with their clowns...but there are also quite a few who have had the same exp. as myself...my comments about mods was just a joke ...i just though it was funny munh - i think im inclined to agree 1000% with youre reccomendations on which clowns are good for the reef tank ...my current problems are a pair of gold bar maroons.... and everyone -ive given up on the idea of spear fishing in my reef ![]() |
