Masago as food for fish tank

I found a perfect food for my fish and corals. It is relatively cheap also. I got some fish eggs that Japanese used for Sushi (from an Oriental food market) to feed my fishes for the last 2 months. All my fish really goes nuts over it. I got about 15 oz for 5 dollars which is about 1/4 the price of Mysis (as sold by my LFS). I am sure we cannot use this as an exclusive fish food but I think they are a very good suplement for my fishes.
In case anybody don't know what it is, it is a fish roe used in sushi. It come in various size, frozen at Oriental Foos store. It goes by the name of Masago.
Here is a picture of the stuff. However, I don't think you can get it from this site.

Minh --

I was wondering about these -- thought about them as fish food last week. Thanks for the info!

Is the roe from a freshwater fish or a marine fish???? I have seen roe availaible for fish food that was from carp. I dont think freshwater roe is as benificial to saltwater fish, is it?

Im no expert on Masago but I just did a little research online....

Masago can also be called ebikko and is the roe of the caplin fish, a small finger sized saltwater fish that is found off the coast of Newfoundland.

I brought a pack home but I had to pay $5.50 for 4.2 oz. I gave a little to all 3 of my tanks & everything went nuts. Even my new coral beauty that was terrotized my my usually doscile niger trigger & just started coming out of hiding a couple days ago almost immediately went right after it. This stuff is tiny& even my larger fish were trying to get every little bit. I think im going to add this into my rotation of foods.

Caplin is an important food source for many larger species of fishes. The harvest of caplin is very wasteful, similar to the harvest of shrimps. Only the larger pregnant females are keep, frozen, then ship to Japan. The rest dump overboard as by-catch.
Japanese essentially deplete their caplin stock and now get these from Newfoundland. Next time I have a patch of Banggai Cardinal, I know what to give them to raise them.
