External pumps
What are some recommended pumps? Has anyone tried the Velocity pumps? They seem like a good deal. I need to have about 1200 gph at 4 ft head. Thanks.

I would stay away for the velocity pumps. They are very quite but run extremly hot and will heat up the water in your tank alot more than most external pumps will.
A good pump that I really like it the Mak4 Gen-x pump. It is pretty cheap and strong and durable and fairly quite for a external pump that runs 1190 gph at 4' of head. |

I'd actually like to have more flow at 4' head than that as this will be running my closed loop and I want the option of more flow and just throttling it back. What pumps are good in the 1200gph to 1500gph range?
I've also decided to go with a Mag drive pump for the sump as space is limited under the cube tank. I would like to have 600 - 700 gph in the sump at 4' head and be able to throttle it back. What do you think about this? Thanks. |

Well if you want more than 1200 gph at 4' of head then your looking at a Iwaki70rlt 1500gph at 4' of head $290 or ampmaster 2100 at 2100gph at 7'head $220.
