I'm soliciting opinions here.
I'm giving my clown loach to a friend W/ a 110. Which will make the 55 available for SW (YIPPEE!!!!)(WOOHOOOO!!!) (ETC!!!) The 30 gallon's contents (mostly LR, crabs, Pods, chitons, and a 3 striper which will go back to LFS) will go into 55. And so for the last two weeks I've been figuring in my brain the best way to do a FOWLR/reefie in the 55. It is not drilled. So, I thought about buying standard 55 drilled, buying drilled 10 gallon and setting it on top for overhead refugium, overflows, Sumps, etc. Then it came to me this AM... PArtition the sucker.. that's right, silicone plexiglass across part of the tank and install circ pump and vent back into MT. I think a Cross section, that will give view of Refugium is best... Like this: ------------------------ [ [ ] ------------------------- above lines and brackets look good on edit, but not onpost, everyone should get basic idea though. What does everyone think? Of course, DSB will happen, Lighting is still up in air along with exact critter makeup.. maybe prizm from 30 gallon, maybe not... we'll see. Opinions, suggestions. Obviously, the object here was to maximize environment quality with minimum cost. TIA!!! ![]() |

The problem is what kind of fish for the FOWLR? If it's a messy like a lionfish or a fish that gets to large then it's going to leave a lot of waste and might affect the quality of the water. |

Yeah, it won't be strikingly differnt in appearance to a store tank that's been partitioned to keep triggers or angels apart for display, except one side will be Fugie and the other Fishie.
Yeah, I had initially thought about dwarf lion/puffer type combo W/ 1 other member, but that I don't want to stress my system that far. I've gotten my hands on a 400W MH ballast, but no bulb yet, and not sure what kind of ballast it is...beyond stated above. Heard of something called "smartlight" ?? (haven't researched at all yet, so all just visual observation) that a guy says he can get a 4' fixture for me for $75 they have PC's in them, one stick white, one stick actinic on each side so some type of PC combi bulb I'm unfamiliar with? I'm leaning on not using the MH at all, and just getting the PC's and having like a pair of clowns maybe a Pseudochromis W them.. smaller, happier critters..maybe some zooanthids. Low maintenance corals, if any at all, but definately smaller fish critters Thanks for the thought, anyone else?? I'll keep you posted of progress |
