Talking My plunge into sps.

Currently I have a 46g bowfront tank with a toadstool leather, ricordia rock, and also about 40 hitchhiker muchrooms. What do you guys think I can keep and what I have to toss to keep sps. The tank is not stocked but it is 10months old. If I have to get rid of the shrooms is it possible to kill them with kalkwasser and a syringe without any ill effects to the system? The system also has a RBTA which I will get a new home for if it gets to be a pain. The lighting on the tank is a 250w halide with 2 55w actinic pc's. For filtration I have a skimmer with a refugium and 70lbs of LR.

Thanks,
Ilia

Hi Ilia!

I don't think you'll have to get rid of anything unless the anemone causes problems. If it is a mover, then it most likely will. Other than that, get yourself a couple of frags and enjoy.

I agree with Scott that the rose bta could become a problem as your frags grow and the rose grows.FWIW, you've seen it in my tank how large this anemone can become,Ilia. But, I would still put couple of frags in there, just make sure they are far away from the anemone and those mushrooms.

Well thanks guys. I was hoping that it would not be too much of a problem. Now I just have to find a place that sells nice frags. Where would you guys suggest I get my frags?

Thanks,
Ilia

I would definately give Rocky(scubadude) a look.he has some real beauties. Just click on his User name and then go to his website(sorry I don't remember exact URL),getting old
Plus, Rocky is a sponsor of this site and every little bit helps as you know I might have some for you for free but I do not have the variety to choose from.

Thanks Ilia

I would definately give Rocky a holler.Besides being a cool dude he's a dedicated hobbyist and a vendor with some serious knowlege. Some of my "sps" might be cool but not too many ready to be fragged yet, except the monties of course

Gene,
Just tell me when because I can pick up the frags anytime. If you need anything from my tank I will be glad to bring it.

I agree about the anemone ... it can start moving on a moment's notice and as such it can run over SPS and do some serious damage. Other than that, SPS is fun to give a go
