    what's this on my rock?

    Can you tell me what this is growing on my live rock?

    I believe it's a strawberry anemone (Corynactis californica). I have a few in my tank. They seem harmless.

    Watch it carefully. Hard to tell from the pic, but could be a Mojano anemone. Not quite as bad as aptasia, but nearly so.

    That is a Strawberry (Californica) anemone. They are not harmful at all.

    Thanks everyone, that's definetly what they look like. I've got 3 right now, I feel better knowing they aren't harmful.

    All anemone posses the ability to sting and capture their prey and so pose a threat to other inhabitants in the tank. You may want to be careful about placing any corals too near it. Small anemones can often multiply under the right conditions and spread quickly to surrounding areas endangering other corals. Fish will usually steer clear.
