Thumbs up Inland Aquatics,

I got my detritivore kit and pair of New Caledonian Melanopus. Got a chiton, too (the only one they had...)

Everything seems to be in good shape. The "female" is a lot larger than I expected- I figured they'd be about the same size and one would have to grow a little first. Nice diversity!!!

The chiton hasn't opened up yet, but I'm sure he'll be ok...

Oooh... tell us more about your Melanopus (s)!!

I got a bunch of snails and macroalgae from them about a year ago. After reading your post and Ninong's about their detritivore kit, I'm seriously thinking of getting one to boost my fauna diversity. Their stuff ALWAYS comes perfectly packed and in great shape.

The chiton finally righted itself...

The A. melanopus are the New Caledonian variant. I'll describe them, since I don't have a digital camera The female is a little brighter than the male. Coloration is very nice. The female is a nice red orange with somewhat bluish stripe. The tail is a brighter yellow-orange. The male is smaller amd the colors a little less intense.

They have eaten brine and have finally started really swimming around the tank. They are the first non-invertebrate re-introductions since I moved. I'm planning on getting a Rose BTA in the near future.

The little buggers didn't eat the mysis I gave them this morning. I'll try brine again later. They aren't swimming around as much today, I guess they could jut have settled overnight... Hopefully!

A very primitive mollusk. They are another detritus-eating creature. Here is a link to a brief description. These get much larger than the chitons IA sells.

I had some, too before the move. I figured it couldn't hurt to add one more (if they survived the move...)
