recommendations for a good Calcium test kit? (more)

my Hagan test kit tells me that I am at 600ppm for Calcium. Has told me so for a while now. Because of it I haven't added calcium in a while. LPS, softies, and clam have been growing pretty well. My hardness is at 10 kdH, it drops somtimes, i've tested 7 kdH before. pH is constant at 8.0 . . . what's going on here? A brain coral introduced 6 weeks ago started a bit of tissue recession that is slowly spreading, but other parts of the same brain are growing like crazy (maybe this is a clue) Any ideas would be great. Thanks guys.

Perhaps your calcium test kit is faulty. I don't believe you can go much over 550 ppm Ca++ without experiencing precipitation.

I use a LaMotte calcium test kit as well as a LaMotte alkalinity test kit and I like them a lot.

Good luck,

Salifert or LaMotte test kits are the way to go.

I use Salifert kits as well but I agree that LaMotte alk and calcium test kits are some of the finest available.A bit more costly then Salifer as well.

lamotte tests are highly overrated IMO... use salifert kits and make sure you don't keep them over 3-4 months without replacing them. i've done tank maintenance for years and have tried LOTS of kits.. salifert is the best combination of price and accuracy by far!
