Just hello.
Hi everybody as you can see this are my first post here. I just want to say hello to everybody and let you know that i going to be around. My tank set up is as fallows: 125g SPS dominated reef, 3 250w 10000k Ushios on PFO ballasts, 2 140w Uri actinics on Icecap ballast and 2 65w 50/50 PC. For filtration a 4" DSB and 300LB LR, Airwaterice 5 stages RO/DI unit, Berlin Red sea protein skimmer. Myreef CR-6 dual calcium reactor with ARM media and Pinpoint PH controller, Resun 1/4 chiller and for circulation a Iwaki 40rxlt on two seaswirl 1" Here some pics of my tank. Recently i loose the Green Acro for a RTN. Take a look how it use to look and how it looks after the RTN. Did high temp.causing stress on a coral can cause RTN? Because i loose this one when i install a fan to the chiller and for my surprise i set the rotation wrong and the temp. went to 92 grades F. Thanks in advance.

Ralphyhp, Hi...Very nice sps tank you have there. Really nice and some nice acropora. IMO, high tank temps is the worst thing a sps tank can have. I have read of most sps tank coral losses occur at over 86 degrees. 92 is way too high and if the nice green acropora was your only loss then I would be very happy with that. Were you able to salvage any frags from it??
I would think that the RTN was definitely from the high temps and the coral just couldn't take the heat. How long was the temp that high??? |

Rtn.
Hi Sue, absolutly i have a frag from that colony i always frag any of my new colonies. The tank run with the lights off at 84g F, i went that day to the beach and when i came home the tank temp. are at 92g F
. The problem was that i assumed that i install the chiller fan correct and that the chiller are running fine looking for it set point (78 grades F) but i was wrong the fan rotation was wrong mounted and the fan was blowing heat to the condensator correct me if i spell it wrong and thats all the problem that i have. I set up the rotation on the correct way and the chiller are working fine. Thanks for all Sue, Ralphyhp . |

Hola Ralph,
Beinvenido. Very nice pictures! Heat above 85F will cause some Acropora species to RTN. Saludos, Kevin

Nice looking tank for sure. Welcome ...
I know first hand that tank temps can be bad and stressful. If not creating RTN events, it certainly can stress the corals and cause them to lose their colorations. I am now a firm believer of 82F max ![]() |
