    New Frags and Vendor Experience

Well, we finally got us some new frags to start our tank off again. We ordered them from Jim at Rainbow Corals http://www.rainbowcorals.com and we are very pleased across the board.

Jim's resonse to e-mails were right on and very timely; corals were as expected and the shipment was great. One of the frags was not received in great condition however it is in the tank and will hopefully recover; Jim was receptive to the feedback about this coral and stated whether is makes it or not, he is crediting my "account" for a future purchase. Another had a broken branch but it was easily attached right back and I am sure it will do just fine.

4 Thumbs up for Jim and Rainbow Corals!

    Acropora Loisetteae

Blue Acropora Millipora (this is the one that was in bad shape when received)

Purple Acropora Nana (this is the one that had a piece broken, you can see where I performed surgery)

    Yellow/Green Acropora Formosa

    Yellow/Green Acropora Millipora

    Green Acropora Yongei

And here are a couple of freebies that were added to my shipment:

    Orange M. Digita

    Green Stylophora

    Regards,
    Scott Z.

    Scott,

Thanks for pics and the review. The frags look GREAT, I like all of them
Make sure to give them plenty of room as I think they'll take off in no time in your tank. Maybe we'll trade for that loisetteae in the future ;)
if I ever get that bigger tank I was promissed
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

Thanks Scott. Really apologize for the blue milli. I think the liner irritated the coral. Future shipments will not have the liner to avoid further irritation.

I have a thought on the nana. Have you consider putting the broken frag on your rock. This way you will have 2 frags. The broken part should heal in no time and will grow new purple branches. Under good lighting the body will turn lime green.

I wasn't sure what you like so I through in those. I thougth these would make a nice addition to your tank. The Green Sylo's polyp will turn darker color over time. I don't know why all the frags have light green color. The main colony has dark green color, but the body will stay yellow under high light.

Thanks again for your order and look forward to seeing those new corals get larger. Keep us updated.

    Jim

Those frags look awesome, they look like colonies compared to the frags I'm getting from my lfs.

Yeah they are all pretty good size. The freebie stylophora is about an inch but hey, it was a freebie! The larger of the frags are 3+" with multiple branches. I was really pleased with the size.

Scott, that Stylophora will be big before you know it. I got a frag from Patrick Monaghan of the Seriatopora caliendrum that was about an inch and it is already a small colony and it's been like only a few month. I know Stylophoras don't grow with the light speed but fast enough
    ;)
I would post a pic of mine( the growth sequence) but can not get to the files at the moment

Jim said that his is very darg green but the frag is very neon green, I expect it to grow fast and darken up.

BTW, whats wrong with your PC? I replied to your e-mail and was curious to know if you got it and everything was set up ok. Let me know when you get back on it.

I did set up the stuff and I did email you but my IE had crashed and you probably never got it.So now I have to do something about it. I couldn't dump it either becouse it would not let me,sometimes I hate XP becouse of this.I will get back to you when this is resolved.

PS. Oh,Scott, the frag looks beautiful.Hard to tell from the pic what color it is exactly but it is very healthy looking and probably will darken up as you move it up.

Thought I chime in, I'm not sure why, but I have the green stylo in my main tank and my prop tanks and the frags have light green polyps for some reason. The main colony does have lawn green (good lawns that is ) polyps. But the frag body shows more yellow than the main colony does.

Here's a picture of the main colony in my tank. Is the left center, well you really can't miss it. And for what it's worth, the frag originally came from Steve Tyree back in 2000. It was a 3/4" frag. I have the colony down on the gravel now as it's taking up too much room.

The only sad part about that picture is the green table. I lost it about 2 weeks after I took this picture. The weird part was the week that I lost the main colony, all the siblings that I gave away also RTN. ET?

Gene, I have it wrapped up. Where should I send it. Boy and I thought it was going to be hard to find a new owner

And all Scott wanted was just the frags.

    Jim,
Tell me it isn't so I was admiring that table and was thinking of asking you for a frag of it.I think what you mentioned about all the frags dying at the same time as the parent colony is predeterment genetically
and I think Eric B. was working on this in his lab(I was following his thread on RC about this-forgot the scientific name for this fenomena).

LOL,send it to NJ,attention wacky reefer What kind of wrapper did you use?
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

    Gene,

It's true. I tried to rescue the piece by clipping the edges as the RTN was occuring from the stem up. The frags survived for about 1.5 weeks and then they all RTN as well. during this time their polyps were out and looked healthy, then the next day or so, wham all gone!!!

But I do have another green table in the works. But had to cheat as I don't really want to wait another 2 years to see it fully grown. I bought a replacement from Reefer Madness. Spendy, but free shipping. hmmmmm... guess I did pay for shipping. :eek3: Maybe by the end of this year I'll have some frags ready.

You can almost see it, but there's a red table right behind the green table. I bought the red table as a frag last summer and doing real well.

    Jim

PS> I duct taped the hood, tank and stand together and put a label next to it, "Live Good. Do not drop or spill water" NJ... wondre what over night shipping would cost.

Are you kidding,Scott?I've been looking everywhere this morning to rent a big enough truck. ;)

Seriously though,Jim, I hope the new table will do GREAT for you. I've been unsuccessfull twice with the wild table Acroporas that I've got from Coral City and just gave up. I do have a frag of A.anthocersis that is growing very well. It is a tabling growth form as well, atleast in Patricks tank it is,it is a red,red color and I just hope that it grows and keeps its color.
I woke up this morning to a total mess in my 110g tank Apparently my "lovely" C.serrulata desided to go sexual overnight while I were snoring away and when I went downstairs this morning I couldn't see anything in the tank The problem was that I just performed a water change two days ago and had no salt water at all prepared. I just trew second bag of carbon in the sump and some polypad that I had laying arround. It is now almost 2pm and water is almost clear, fish and a few corals that I have left there doing just fine,Rose bta's as well. The algae looks white and spent after the orgy I think I got lucky and hopefully everything will live.
Jim,here's the pic of the A.anthocersis.

    Gene,

Does the A.anthocersis have a stag like growth. I have this piece, but it h as a stag like grown and nto like any millipora, but the corralites looks like it. It doesn't slim so I guess it's not a Formosa or like SPS

Scott, thanks for the update. Can't wait to see how it grows out in your tank. But let me know how the Yellow Milli holds it color?
