Is there salt???
When I used to keep freshwater tanks, I would save the water from vaccuming the gravel to water my plants with. They appeared to enjoy it very much, and I did it for many years.
The skimmate from my reef tank looks perfect for this also, but I'm concerned about the salt content. Everything else in it should be fine for the plants. Does salt precipitate out, into the skimmate? I know it doesn't during evaporation, but I'm not so sure about skimming. Whats the skinny? ![]() |

Yes, skimmate includes saltwater. It would kill your plants. Even if you never did a water change in your tank and simply replaced evaporated water with freshwater, you would eventually have to add salt to replace that lost through the skimmer.
