back again

Hi all

Well I am now starting to get my tank back up to speed. Over the last few months I had a crash, due to the HOT weather, that doesn't happen very often here in Washington!!

I lost all of my corals, and inverts, except the harlequin shrimp. I then had an Off the Scale Phosphate Problem!!! I have been battling the dreaded hair algae using a phosphate sponge, ro/di water, taking the rocks out and removing the hair algae.......I think that I may be winning

Surprise, Surprise...none of my fish died, they are swimming happily around the tank, eating whatever I feed them like nothing happened..go figure

I now have some mushrooms, long tentcle anemone, red brain, and some polyps. Things are looking up.

One of the other things that survived is my bubble anemone, it is now white with just a hint of green, and it is smaller, but it seems to be coming back.

Hopefully I will do better this time. It is always a learning experience

That is a bumer,April Sorry to hear this but am glad thing are looking up again for you. Have you come up with solution to battle the heat if issue comes up again? Lots of people here in the Metro area have had pretty bad losses due to the power outtages as well, some have reported total losses Keep up the great work and good luck in the new begining.

April,

VERY sorry to hear of your losses.

On the positive side -- I LOVE those purple long tentacle anemones -- they are my favorites of all I think -- and yours is quite the looker.

I agree with you on this. I'm learning something new, even if very small, everyday, and somehow i think that's what keeps me going. Well that...and the irresistible frags hahaha.

April, I am also here in Washington. I will bring some frags for the frag swap meeting this saturday. What kind of lighting do you have? I will save some for you

I also had heat problems, but i keep my tank at steady 79-82 all year, and none of my corals died, except a newly acquired frag of millepora All is well, though, but we will see...hopefully it does cool off a bit.

Thanks to all

Elmo,

Where is the meeting held? I will not be able to attend this weekend as I am working. Hospitals never close!!

I have PC lighting 4 96 watt, two white, two actinic.

Do you have a chiller? The temp is usually pretty good stays around 78-80, it sometimes goes to 82.

Before, I had the thermometer set at 80, and the lights on for 12-14 hours a day. When the temperature went to 90 outside it went to 90 in my tank!!

I have the thermometer now set at 78, and lights are only on for 7-8 hours a day and mostly in the evening. Things are better now.

I will probably get some fans set up for the canopy to keep it cooler.

Have a good day.

It's in Covington, Washington. I haven't had a chance to look at the mapquest link that Paul and Chuck have sent in the "Perculator" yet.

Ok, maybe next time, i'll get some frags over, or save some for you

I had a tank crash from power the power outage and one a few years ago D/T warm weather and a non reefer baby sitting the tank while I was on vacation. If you walk away with any knowledge gained than it is not a total loss even though it felt like it at the time. Each time we get a little better. This afforded me the opportunity to examine the reasons for teh crash and to take steps to avoid teh same thing in the furure tank. I have a 180 now and it is coming along great. Good Luck!!
