    Low Light Corals?

hello. ihave a 50 gal reef tank. problem is that i only have 1 50/50 bulb right now. was wondering if there are any low light corals to add to my tank using the existing light. I know that more light is better, but cost of power and the light willl be too much for me. I there are low level corals what would i expect to pay for them?

Well, far be it from me to give advise, but.......from my own limited experience I have had a sun coral for over a year now that seems to do well in spots where there is not so much light in my tank (running out of those with 2 bta's now though). Adds a wonderful yellow and orange color to my tank. Down side is that they have to be handfed a few times a week, but well worth it to me!

It is hard to answer this question without knowing what the wattage or type of 50/50 you have. If it is a 48" NO 40 watt, then I would really not suggest the keeping of even lower light corals due to the lack of intensity.

Best thing woudl be to wait until you can 1 either get at least 4 -40 watt bulbs, 4 - 55 watt PC's or even 4 - 96 watt PC's. Then I would say it woudl be acceptable to get the lower light corals.

Low lighting corals you can expect to pay anywhere from $10 - $60 IMO ranging from very small to med-large...another hard question to answer..

With that said, let us know what kind of light you have currently and we can try to go from there and assist in the decision making...
