Spotted Mandarin

This little guy is the replacement I had for my 2 year Mandarin that I lost as part of one of my stupid exercises in my decaying tank prior to the tear down. This one seems to be doing quite well and will even take frozen brine shrimp just like the previous one did.

They are such beautiful fish! If properly provided the food they need to survive they bring so much enjoyment! Johnny

That's why I like the spotted ones over the psychadelic ones. The Psych ones are very pretty, but much more difficult to feed. The spotted ones will generally be more ready to accept prepared foods, such as frozen enriched brine shrimp.

Chuck,
I think Psychedelic Mandarin is synonymous with Spotted Mandarin which is the Synchiropus picturatus. The other species is Green Mandarin or Synchiropus splendidus
Regardless, you have a fat little fish there. I am sure he will do well.

I think it is a great fish no matter what ...

FWIW ... I was only trying to be descriptive as the two vary between big spots and the other more of a psychadelic pattern to it ... Wasn't trying to put an exact name to them.

I agree. I think the Mandarin is very lucky that he ended up in tour tank. A very beautiful fish.

I got one about 6 months ago now and it is doing great. It was eating frozen PE Mysis shrimp from the get go and has probably doubled in size since then. Love the fish when I see it.

Chuck,

What a great fish! I agree with Minh -- he's a lucky dude (ette? -- the sexes on these aren't as obvious as with the others) to be hanging out in your tank!

It's a great shot, too. His coloration is fabulous!

Rebecca, I believe it is a him ... has the long spined dorsal, but you can't really see it here. At least I think it has the long spine ... now you have me wondering ... HAHA

Thanks for the nice words.
