Will this cycle a 10g tank?

I'm working on a nano that I'll be able to transport to college, and I set it up today!

My question, I didn't feel like going to the supermarket for shrimp so I just threw a handful of flakes in there.....will this cycle it?

There's also about 2 pounds of liverock from an existing tank...Will this work?

Mikeman,

Long time no talk friend! Yeah it will however it will take a bit more time obviously. You could drop a couple of pieces of flake in every few days for a few weeks to get it cycled. From there when you add more liverock there is a good chance you will see some kind of spike either in ammonia or nitrite since you have only a couple of pounds in the tank now so be sure to monitor that when the time comes.

Regards,
Scott Z.

it has been a long time....but once your addicted, you always come back, am I right?

Alright, I'll monitor when I start adding live rock, although I'll probably do it during the cycle...the reason I haven't bought any yet is im trying to figure out what I want to do with it, make a bta/clownfish specific tank, or a nice little sps nano..

Makes a little bit of a difference because I'd rather add live rock around the anenome that have it end up facing the back wall if that's what I decide to do

It's nearing the third day, and I haven't cycled a tank in a very long time, the fact that the tank is a little cloudy and smells, is this a good sign? my ammonia kits are soo old that I don't trust them so it's hard to tell.
