    Maroon Clown Pair

My maroon clowns, housed in my refugium, needed their pictures taken tonight So I got the camera out. I tried cleaning the acrylic well, but maybe I neglect that acrylic because it is just a refugium, therefore these are not as clear as my normal pictures, so I apologize for that ... What do you think of my clown pair? They are about 2 years old, or close to it anyway.

    The pair ...

    The female ...

    And the male ....

I openly admit to not having Joyce Wilkersons "Clownfish" so I don't have the resource to look it up but is the bands changing from white to "gold" any indication of their age?

Chuck's 'fuge is like 40 gallons I think...

VERY cool pictures, especially the head-on ones of both the male and female!!

I have her book but don't have it handy. These fish are about 2 years in my care and they were juveniles when I got them. The female started turning gold about a year ago. She still has not transitioned fully. The male is way later and only shows hint of transitioning to gold stripes.

The sump is a total of 40 gallons with the refugium section holding about 15 gallons of water. They have always lived there, yes.

Gold bands maroon clown have white bands when young and change to gold as they get older. Dark gold bands indicated older fish even if they as a male and small.

Very beautiful maroon clowns MtDewMan!! I had a pair of Maroon clownfish and the male up and disappeared one day and the large female kept tearing up my DSB so I did not have a sump and returned her to the LFS! They were beautiful fish and miss them to some degree now! Johnny

Thanks for the info on the bands, Minh! I have a maroon pair and my female is bigger and has gold stripes, the male is smaller and his stripes are just a hint of gold. Now I know why.

    Thanks again
