Whats the best product for feeding a reef?

I use these two products daily. One is MarineSnow and the other is ZooPlex. Does anyone have any suggestions on other products that my be better? please let me know. thanks.

My tank is a 50 gal. reef with two tree leathers, one green elegance, one frogspawn, some stipped mushrooms, and a green brain coral (which is not doing well at the moment )

On the subject of my green brain coral, I bought it about a week and a half ago and since it has been in the tank it has not opened up yet. It remains retracted into the skeleton of the coral?, Is it dead?, or in shock? here are some pictures of it.

Hey James!

The brain isn't dead by no means but if it isn't expanding, it isn't happy about something. Is it placed in the shade or so you have it in direct light? From the pictures it appears it is in a very shaded area and if so, i would move it out.

As far as foods, there are lot's of foods available and it really depends on your animals. Some corals such as the brain coral will accept very meaty foods, in the LPS Coral forum there is a recent picture of one eating a whole fish. Corals such as Soft Corals and SPS corals feed off of phytomplankton and other very small particle foods from the water column.

Some of the popular food names you'll hear are Golden Pearls, DT's phytoplankton and ESV's phytoplankton.

Regards,
Scott Z.

I feed my reef tank almost completely on my home made "mush" and everything is doing just great! I do put in a little green water for the clams but that is about it! Johnny

I just started a product called Cyclop-eeze, I bought it at a LFS and my blastomoussa seems to really like it, it has opened up VERY large around feeding time. Other then that I had used "coral heaven" from IPSF and Tropicorium in Romulas and it was kind a PITA

James,

Does it show any feeding response by extending feeding tentacles(especially at night)? I agree with Scott that perhaps you should move it to a different location.
I feed mine with formula1 and large mysid shrimp when feeders come out.
As far as feeding the whole reef tank,I use a variation of Bornemans mush and just recently got cyclop-eeze( I see a definite positive results using it).

Also,I think a healthy Trachyphyllia capable of taking the prey the size of a krill with no problem.

Golden Pearls (three smallest sizes). I feed DT's to the refugium pods who, in turn, provide what is probably the very best food for the reef.
