I just got a 80 gal. tank with center overflow.
It has two 2 inch holes and a 1.25 inch return hole. Whoever custom ordered this tank was planning on moving some serious water. Anyway, I was thinking of using 1of the 2 inch holes with a 1 inch drain pipe for the sump attached to a Durso standpipe to keep the overflow full. The 1.25 for the return split with a T. Now I was wondering, would it be possible to use the other hole for the intake on a closed loop. I was planning to hook a mag 9 pump to it, a ball valve, a SCWD at the top and return outlets at opposite ends of the tank. Will this setup work? I'll make sure that the intake for the closed loop will sit near the bottom of the box. Thanks for any suggestions, Marcel

Even at the bottom it may suck air from the top of the overflow. If the overflow stays full, you could make a small upside down U with elbows for the closed loop intake and that should prevent any eddys forming at the top of the overflow. You would want to make sure to screen the intake, just incase any fish make a trip over the falls
