question about light...and invert reaction

i was wondering how you guys acclimate a coral to lighting and tank conditions..

i was wondering if your guy's inverts look pale and different in color when u first bought it..

i got these zoos, which looked like maroon and green mouth.. but after about a week or so, they started to lose some color as if it turning translucent or transparent.. they open up though, and seem to be okay, just the color is fading.. i not sure what it may be..

could it be too strong of light?.. i have 150mh, about 2 feet?? or so away from tank (ill 2x check), they were no at the lfs..

thanks..

Hey Wind!

Yeah when corals change to a drastically different light, they need to be acclimated slowly, over the course of a couple of weeks for best acclimation. If you bought zoos that were previously under No and now they are under MH, they should be put at the lowest point in the aquarium in shade and moved out of the shade to their permenant home over the course of a couple of weeks. A drastic change like this can cause corals to loose coloration but if they are hardy, as zoos are, they should recover.

Scott Z.

I wouldn't mess with the duration of the light cycle, athough that is an option as well. Personally I would play with the placement of the new coral. Placing it on the substrate under a ledge where it doesn't receive direct light and then moving it out and then up on the rock structure is the method I prefer.

If you want to adjust the cycle of the lights, I would reduce it and then move it up about an hour every 3-4 days until back up to full length.

My Blasstomousa lost alot of its color too.... I noticed the Cyclop-eeze food has started bringing that color back... What are you feeding it if anything?

It would be a great idea to get some sort of food in there, whether it be a "green water" or golden pearls or the new Cyclop product the corals need more then just the light to thrive!!!

I'm sure some other members can chime in with what they use for Coral food maybe you'll get more ideas reading other threads one comes to mind what do feed your corals??? I think that was the heading maybe you can pull from there or do a search on Coral food for related threads...
