new clean up crew?

new clean up crew?

yeah i think i will just go for manly snails say 50,

30 turbo, astrea,
12 cerith,
6 nassarius,

and then 12 hermits,
6 red legs and
6 blue legs,

and then two cleaner shrimps

basically i have just decided to leave out the super snails (trochus) as they are bigger and can knockin things over and fall over and cant right themselves,

do you think this sounds okay?

Hi Pomme,

In my experience, red legged hermits have not been all that great. They tend to be very agressive towards snails and other hermits. I think that 30 turbo snails might be a bit much, IMO. I would go with 10 turbos (max) for now, 30 nassarius, 10 cerith, and 10 blue legged hermits. I might even forget about the hermits all together and get 10 more cerith snails. I love my nassarius snails because they burry themselves in the sand with their nose sticking out. During feeding time, they emerge from the sand causing the sandbed to get stirred up. Are you planning on adding more snails in the future. The usual rule of thumb is to add 1 snail per gallon (excluding large snails, such as Turbos). I have a 90 gallon tank with 30 nassarius, 30 cerith, and 2 turbos, and not a spec of algae. I plan on adding 30 more snails in the near future. I also have a blenny and a dragon goby that really help keep the tank clean as well .

Regards,

Terry

is it the trochus that are larger or the astrea? and which one is the one that falls over and cant right themselves?

yeah i have decided to leave out the hermits all together as i think it woiuld just be a disaster waiting to happen, and i dont want to take the risk.
