So I finally got up the nerve to get some anenomes for my tank. I bought them on friday, I got a small atlantic and a medium atlantic, and also a bubble anenome.
Well, everyone was doing just fine! my bubble settled into my live rock in a little nook underneath (I had to turn the rock so he could get light, but he is happy) and my small atlantic put himself into an empty shell I had. My bigger atlantic however attached to the middle of one of my rocks, where he looks fabulous, @ the end of saturday night, he looked like he was completley happy settled towards the bottom on the side (Still getting lots of light). Well when I awoke on sunday I went to see how everyone was doing, and needless to say he tried in the middle of the night to attach himself to the filter intake tube, and got sucked half way in and well, he died..... For future referance is there anyway to prevent suicidal anenomes??? |

MelaBella,
Sorry for your loss. Unfortunately there isn't anything that can be done to prevent anemones from moving; it's kind of like trying to get a fish to hold still for a picture. The oly precautions that can be taken is making sure there isn't anything in the display for them to get "sucked up" in. Basically, that would mean an aqaurium with no powerheads and no hang on filtration. Unfortunately, I hope I am wrong, I think the other anemones are doomed to die as well. As mentioned in previous replies, anemones need lots of very intense lighting and an established tank to have any chance for living long-term in the aquarium; along with daily feedings. I think your 10 gallon aquarium is much too small, much to young and does not have the proper equipment (lighting) for 1 anemone, more less 3. Here is a link to a search I performed on "lighting for anemone" which has many good threads about lighting for them as well as general care. http://www.reefland.com/forum/search.php?searchid=7697 Regards, Scott Z. |

That's a good start, did you get some of the PC's that were mentioned?
Getting intense lighting over a 10 gallong tank can be a daunting task for sure.Regards, Scott Z. |
