The beginning of an SPS adventure

    Hey guys

I have a 120g reef tank that has been set up for about two years and until now I have kept soft and lps corals in the tank. I have had pretty good success with these. However, they are not doing it for my any more and I want to get into sps corals.
My tank parameters are very good I have a calcium of 440 and a salinity of about 1.024 my carbonate dkh is about 15 and I have no nitrates amonia or nitrites.
I have been dosing twice a week with sea chem reef plus, reef calcium and reef complete. I do a 10 percent water change every three weeks and add to the water reef advantage, magnesium and strontium, and reef builder.

I am a poor college student and was wondering where the best place to get sps corals was.

Also, are there any tricks with the sps corals that you can think of.

    Thanks alto

    jeff

    The tricks to SPS are:

    1. Mature Reef
    2. Appropriate Lighting
    3. Ca and Alk at appropriate levels
    4. Excellent water quality
    5. Good water movement
    6. Excellent water quality (did I say that again? haha)
    7. Patience
    8. Patience
    9. Patience
    10. Patience

Your best place to start in the SPS world is to find some local reefing guys that can give you a few frags to try out. See how they do and give them a chance to grow out. Once you can grow them well, you will know your tank is well adjusted for more.

Did I mention that an SPS tank requires a lot of patience?
