Help with temp control

hey guys

I tracke my temp for a 48 hour period and I noticed that it goes from 76.5 when the lights are on to around 78.5 when the lights are off. I was wondering if you knew what could be causing this. Also is this to big of a change for sps corals. Please let me know asap

thanks

jeff

The temperature is a bit low but the swing is quite good. Mine is in the 3-4 degree range in the summer less in the winter. The center of the Indio Pacific region (highest diversity of coral species) averages about 82F. Are you using fans? Do they go off at night?

Regards,
Kevin

yep, I use fans during the day and they go off at night. Should I leave them on. Do you think that I should move up my temp or should I leave it. Did you mean that the swing is good, like good for the corals. Also this happens every day not between the seasons. Please let me know what you think

thanks for your help

Hi Jeff,
IMO 2 degrees in 48 hours is very good. I set my chiller at 78 (goes on at 79 and off at 77). So you can see my tank swings 3 degrees. This can happen in as little as a few hours. The goal is steady as possible and you are pretty much there.

I would bring up the temperature 2 degrees. Your variation is as Bob says very small. The ocean can swing more than that in shallow water when the tide goes out over 4 hours or so. I would leave the fans off at night. The reason your temp. goes up a little is that your pumps are introducing some heat that is not removed when the fans are off. IMO it should not be a problem.

Regards,
Kevin
