Adding New Creatures To the Tank

Hello everyone. I am new to the hobby and have a quick question. I have a 55 gallon tank that has been running for two months now. I have slowly added inverts and fish to the tank over that period.
I was wondering, after I have added a fish to the tank, how long should I wait before I add another?
I want to know so that I don't induce ich or any other parasites.
