trimming a colt coral
I was wondering if I cut a branch off of my colt coral will it let toxins into the water that will harm my other corals.
Thanks Jeff |

I don't know for sure but the safe thing to do would be to remove the colt and place it into another container, make your cuts, rinse well with saltwater and then put the colony and frag back in the tank. I think you will be just fine using this method.

Hi jdfenn,
I tried this before directly in my tank and I did not have any problems. Maybe I was lucky. But my skimmer did get more of a workout and my water got a bit cloudy for a while. But other than that everything went OK. CaptK |

If for some reason you cant take the coral out of your tank you could try running carbon while your cutting and a day or two afterword.
