Button Coral not expanding

Recently I bought a beautiful button or meat coral (cynarina) and it will not expand for three dyas now. Although I read that it can be sensitive to other corals like mushrooms, it is not touching them. Its few inches away from them.

Is it possible that it is adversely affected by the mushrooms and button polyps that are next to it?

That would be interesting. My water paramenters are fine ands other animals are thriving.

Does anyone what may be happening.

Thanks

3 days, Its mouth opens and closes once in a while. He released some material from his mouth the first day. I had no idea what is was.

There is little water movement around him, but not much. It is sitting on the bottom of the tank.

He should be fine, but he is not doing very well, I think.

Any suggestions? He is very unique. He has brown and green and little red in him. I have not see one like this before.

Thanks

I would give it a few days and see how it does; it sounds to me like it is adjusting to a new environment. Was there a big lighting difference from the place you got it and your tank? What about temp and salinity?

Their salinity was 1.021 my is 1.025, but I took my time acclimating him.
Temp was about the same. My ph is little higher. They had him under MH. I have power comapcts, but I turned off my 10000 K lights and had him under the smart lamps for 2 days. The other corals are doing fine.

What do you think abou this water movement? There is a little bit around him. Should I try to put him somewhere else where there is no water movement?
I think he should still expand a little even the water movement is there. I was goig to move him is the water movement affected him. I really do not want to move him, if I do not have to. On the scale 1 -10, the water movement aroud him is about 4-5.

I don't think the current is the problem, it is more than likely due to the environment change; the lighting particularly. If you mov eit anywhere, you might try to move it higher in the tank closer to your lights as the MH>>PC change could be the problem. Otherwise, you may want to leave it just where it is and let it adjust for some time and see what happens. As long as the tissue is not receeding, give it a bit of time.

Thanks alot.

He is getting better. He expanded a little this morning. I will leave him alone for a few and then move him a little higher.

He looks much better today. I was begining to worry. It was 4 days.

Hey Dive Master, just thought I would chime in since I've had a cynarina for some time now so I just wanted to share what tank conditions mine seems to do well in. Again, this is just from my experience. They don't like a lot of flow. Mine opens up the most when all the pumps are turned off. I have mine placed on the sand bed where there is the least amount of flow. They only need a moderate amount of light, and your set up sounds just fine. I've noticed mine is very sensitive to salinity changes. It does well in lower and higher ranges of the range, but I think the key is to keep it stable. One other thing, mine eats like crazy, so you might try feeding it some mysis shrimp or brine. Good luck man.
