Is it OK to move a sandbed?

Hi All,
I have a new tank on the way and to help get things going I was thinking of moving the sandbed from my 29G to the new 75G.
But I thought I saw something somewhere that it was bad to move or disrupt sand beds. Is this true?
I will be adding new Southdown playsand to the new tank also.
Thanks,
CaptK

It it were me, I would use new Southdown sand and top it off with live sand from the top 1" of the old sand bed.

I agree with Ninong, add the new southdown, then seed with a few cups from the old tank.

Hi,

I have moved or removed shallow sandbeds often enough, and once, coincidently I had a bacteria problem that resulted in the loss of some coral tissue. Tested bacteria counts did go up in the water column. I am more careful now, (just in case) I suck out the sand using a 3/8" wand and hose, keeping stirring to a minium. I then poor off the brown water on top and wash it in SW and replace.

First thing I would do is scoop it into a bag, garbadge bag of somekind. Then I would open the garage door and set it into a can. Then I would take the can to the curb so the sand can be picked up and conviently be relocated to the local trash heap. I hate sand beds....... GO BB!!!! GO BB!!!!
Sheesh I can't spell huh?

I would start fresh and seed it with sand from the top of the old... I tried to put all the sand from my 55 into my 135 when I set it up, once you get to the bottom 1" or so, the sand is BLACK and really really STINKS!!!! YUCK!!!
